Noice!
I wanna see it with the knobbly!

I'm assuming you're waiting to do that with the SV front end.

Yeah, that's correct. It's taking all I have in me to not try fitting the SV wheel on the current forks...but I realize it'll just be a total waste of time. :P

I use pre Katana (89-97) front ends. They give a little more height and are stiffer than GS forks. There's also more options for tuning them.

Yeah I have a 1st gen SV front end. It was basically free, gives me 41mm forks, stiffer rates, and about an inch of lift. We will also probably have to space it out for the longer stem which means another inch of lift through a bearing cup added to the bottom.

Ya know, I saw this Yamaha Bolt scrambler conversion in a thread (on the Superhawk forum) yesterday, and honset-to-God, the first thought in my mind was how cool that would be to do with a GS500!

I can't wait to see how the final product turns out!

Op is really onto something here. This Bolt and several others were my highpoint of ny bike show.

That type of fender could be made to work on a gs/sv front end as well. Would give a little different look/function than the high mount.

Most guys that seem to do a little Adv conversion on the GS500's keep the stock fender and just raise it. The higher fender givers better visual balance for the look I'm after (to my eye anyway).

I just couln't help myself and I threw the front wheel on for a quick mock up :)

Any plans for a high-mount exhaust/scrambler?

It'll have twin high mount dirt bike style mufflers. Going to use the stock headpipes and route them up behind the foot controls. Just can't see a way to route full on scrambler pipes to look right with the frame and engine design.

Should look pretty clean and cool.

That thing looks sick... Any plans on a rear fairing/fender ala dirtbike-esqe? Backend seems a bit stark to me.... But still looks real good...
