Sony HDR-AS-15 - $170 at Wal-Mart

This may be common knowledge but I thought it worth posting here. While browsing Wal-Mart yesterday, I found that the Sony HDR-AS-15 camera has been rolled back to $170 - a $30 drop in price. I've been on the fence on getting a helmet cam and $200 seems a but much for me while the cheaper cameras seem to be lacking in features. $170 just felt like it was worth it considering the built-in wifi.

Would you believe $140 at best buy?

It's a great deal on a great action camera.

$140 at Amazon as well. Free shipping if you have Prime.

I may buy another at $140.00

I've been happy with this overall. A couple of issues:

1) The white balance leans way toward the blue. I actually find the white balance more appealing than that of the gopro. One oddity is that the white balance is different in 120 deg. mode - much less blue and more toward the red like a gopro.

2) The firmware upgrade that gives 120fps 720p mode also kills audio in 60fps and 120fps 720p mode. 60fps 1080p mode still works as it should.

3) Backlit subjects are pretty dark.

4) Mounting options are limited out of the box.

1) Wifi preview is smooth and fast - unlike my experience with a gopro and wifi packpack.

2) Battery life is very good.

3) Low light performance is good.

4) Smartphone app works well.

Sony has cancelled the HDR-AS10 but is keeping the AS15 and AS30 alive. Hopeful that firmware updates will correct the audio recording issue at high frame rates and get the white balance even between 170 deg and 120 deg modes.

I will 3d print a gopro adapter so mounting options should be taken care of. My only wish with this is that it had a better mic connection (not under a flap) and the ability to rotate the lens to level the image.

Damn. I got mine at 180 last year. Amazon has these for 140, and is throwing in some freebies as well. I don't care for the anti-fog sheet, since I have the slimmer case, but the other two mounts are nice to have. Damn, if only I waited 4 months to get mine...
