I'm exited for this event. Me and a couple of buddies are seriously thinking of doing it, just gotta figure out some logistics before we commit.

So glad there's finally something like this close to home!

Good job Ted!!

Yeah hunting season and leaves is a good reason to change the dates. Hoping I can pull it all together and do EVERYTHING.

Ned is a real hard-core true Dakar rider! He is going to treat the Colorado to Ontario portion as a transit stage and just ride it!

Still buried in snow so not too much new to report. We've been working on logistics over the last couple of months. Things are coming along nicely

i bet i've ridden some of what you have planned...since you are trying to tame the water down i know what won't be on the course!

not much of a racer but would like to try my hand at a rally style event ... and those dates are currently open.

sounds like an excuse to cart the 'berg up to the great white north.

Keep in mind that according to the description it is NOT a race....

Just a competitive ride where everybody is trying to be the first one to finish

Not so much about coming first, more about arriving and finishing the specials on time.

There is a cutoff time to start and finish each special. Navigating correctly will be much more important than speed

We've been asked what happens if you show up late for a special or don't finish one on time. The short answer is your days over. This isn't done to be cruel but rather for safety and logistics. If it isn't the last day you can start again in the morning but you are no longer is contention for a finishers medal.

Curious about fuel range. You mentioned special stages of under 200k. I assume 200k is the required fuel range? Is there a fuel station near the begin/end of the special stages?

With my bike upgrades (still in progress) I figure I am good to 240k when riding full-out, over 300k if I ride easy. So my strategy is to wave and laugh as I ride past others stopped getting fuel

Day 1 and 3, there are gas stations at or near the start/finish of the specials.

Day 2, fuel is not available on or near the start/finish of the specials. As you can see in the diagram, day 2 is a clover leaf design and assistance vehicles are allowed at the org tent (start/finish) of the three special sections. For people without an assistance team the org will transport a fuel can (provided by the competitor) from the bivouac to the org tent.

As each competitor will spend the mandatory 15 minute break before each special at the org tent (15 minutes x 3 = 45 minutes) it would be beneficial to have an assistance vehicle to provide food/water/fuel/tools, etc or share an assistance vehicle with another competitor. Not mandatory but would be a nice thing to have.
