Barlow or Bust 2014: May 29th - June 1, 2014

After a couple recent PMs asking about our Barlow Rd camping trip,
I figured I'd get around to posting this up
Same rules as always......If you are reading this,....
YOU are invited

Barlow or Bust 2014: May 29th - June 1 (Thu-Sun), 2014

If you don't know the history of the Barlow Road, then shame on you
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barlow_Road

If you don't know how AWESOME this OLD dirt road is to ride (the street-legal ride-able 41 mile section that's still left)...then more shame on you. Year 1 was 2012, when Scott_PDX, Jungle Man and I rode Barlow, and camped at a small, most excellent dispersed campspot right on Barlow at Boulder Creek. Year 2,.....we stepped it up a bit and made a general invite on the "Riding Around the Hood" thread, and gathered at Forest Creek CG, and 18 ADVers showed up, and we had GREAT weather and a most AWESOME weekend !! Both of those Barlow camps took place on the weekend before the Black Dog Dual Sport event in Hood River, but, this year, we gotta pick two weeks before Black Dog, 'cause....well,...just because.

I'm gonna be lazy and just quote last year's invite, which also links you to where we posted all the before and after shenanigans associated with almost every ADV campout. Squishy and I will likely show early Thursday, to get settled into the campspots, and y'all just come on up whenever you can. No reservations required, just come along, loaded for camping and fun. And put on some good lighting....the night-time Barlow rides proved to be the best part of the weekend

.

We will provide plenty of drinking water for all, several campstoves, and many coolers full of ice, but that's about it. The rest is up to you, and we'll probly have a community effort for dinner/breakfasts, sorta like a potluck. Please leave the freeze dried stuff at home and bring real FOOD. It don't have to be fancy, just plentiful

Right Here.

You'll hafta click it and look at the map.
See main two-lane paver road NF48? (yellow line on map link)
There is a small sign right on 48 saying "Forest Creek Campground"

Follow FS 4885 (also called Keeps Mill Rd; easy gravel) from NF48 one mile down to Barlow Rd (NF3530).
You will see a bridge on Barlow over Cedar Creek from this intersection (4885 & 3530).
The CG is a very short stone's throw from this bridge. Easy Peasy.

Only 7 sites total, it's primitive but has a cement vault outhouse, and it's right smack on Cedar Creek.

BTW, Google Maps shows Keeps Mill Rd (NF4885) to cross the White River.
.......It does NOT, unless you wanna jump the river with General Lee.
It does appear to be a legal river crossing, maybe in a modified Jeep ONLY.
Even Squishy doing a wheelie would not cross this
Mort posted up these coordinates, but unfortunately, did not make the ride last year, we're all hoping he makes it up to us this year....

So that gives you an idea of what the camp is like, so lock it in & get there!

IN! Thanks for throwing this out there again Jeff. Last year was a lot of fun.

Just be wary if somebody says the night ride will be slow and easy paced.

That spot is one of my favorite campsites up on Mt Hood...right after AppleJam's Back Yard that is.

I think moving it up an extra week takes some pressure off for those going to this and Black dog, so that's a good thing. Although sucks about your schedule though PigPen .

The nice thing about Barlow is that 35mph is FLYING and about as fast as it gets. I rarely make 3rd gear. Bambi's gonna hear Punkin's 7,500 rpm scream well before I get to her. Rev up, rev down.....Rev up, rev down....Rev up....AHHHHH....WATERBAR - BRAKES - AHHHHH - .
We don't see too many deer when running Barlow
