A JD2 model 3 was $300 and the small dies are about $150. You can flip it after you are done and have perfect bends without spending a lot of cash.

My plan is to do the same thing...going to check out HF bender.

Fred
It is that exact one. I bolted it to a piece of plywood, because I am working in my carport and need to be able to move it to my small shed for storage. Works really well. I'll post some pics when I get the racks completed. Good luck on your build!

Why not buy already bent tubing?

Burns Stainless sells what ever bends you would need.

There are others out there too.

They are mandrel bent without any flat spots or imperfections.

KLR owner here....

A conduit bender will give you a 10" OD 180 degree bend with 1/2" conduit. $1.60 for a 10' stick of conduit. The bender is just over $30. I made my back rack with this and several bicycle stands.

Beware of expensive imitations...

As others have said, you can buy ready bent bends from others. I did this when building an exhaust.

Former KLR owner here... it was a learning experience.

I used this 1/2 tubing bender on 1/2 chromoly. Worked fine.

You could use 1/2 in square. That's what I used on my GS and it has held up to numerous dumps and overloaded trips.
