Sears Diehard Platinum versus Odyssey

They're the same. The Diehard Platinum line is made by Enersys. The difference is the color of the case and warranty. The Platinum is 4 years replacement and then pro-rated.

I just traded up from an Advanced Gold I killed. The warranty covered the cost of the Gold and I paid the difference. The group 34 is $218 at Sears and the lowest online price I could find for the Odyssey is about $240 and you would have to wait for delivery.

What about it? Is it a rebadged Odyssey priced less than an Odyssey?

I brought this up for anyone who wants an Odyssey battery for a car or truck but would like a better price and availability. It looks like Interstate's MT7 is also an Odyssey.

"What about it" is I was just throwing it out there if you'd tried one, a high perf AGM that's been in the auto world a long while, (now owned by Interstate) and if so, how did it do. That's it.

I'm going to install it in about half an hour and it will work fine in the application as would any name brand group 34 battery especially in this mild climate except an Optima because their reputation has really degraded since production left the USA.

Interstate batteries are made by Johnson Controls except the MT7 which is made by Enersys. Johnson Controls owns the Optima brand.

Here is the battery as I received it from the shelf at Sears. I have not charged it.

Here it is with some dead batteries.

Here's what the Odyssey PC1500 looks like. I find the red top very off-putting and unattractive. The muted light gray of the Diehard is much better looking.

Here is the torque multiplier I use to torque axle nuts on axle shafts when the torque exceeds about 200lbft and or requires angle torque after 200lbft. It has a 4:1 ratio. I was cleaning up some tools I left out on Friday before I installed the battery so I took pictures.

The voltmeter in the car while the top is being raised with the engine running at idle. Normally it would be at the middle or show a discharge. The top cycles quickly.
The end.
