I sure hope that it does work. Here is a ride report that I'm using for some information. It took place a year ago.

I'm supposed to leave in three days. The bike is still sitting in the house but now has my Hippo Hands mounted to it. Woke up to another -4 degree morning but they say it will get up to 11 later today. The storm named "Titan" is currently pounding California with too much rain. They predict big mudslides over the week. That same storm is forecast to bring over a foot of snow to my area in the next two days. My first day's ride will be through PA and they are to be hit much harder than here. I will get out of here one way or another.
On a brighter note, I've read a few reports that this storm might cause some epic blooming in Death Valley and other western deserts.

Hoping the storm moves far enough south to miss your part of the Empire State. Maybe you still have time to mount some ski outriggers like these guys have:

Looking forward to your first post from somewhere on the road!

Be great if you can be in DV for the bloom. Here's a pic from April 1st, '05 for some extra mojo to escape here and make it there.

I wish I could have left on Saturday. It was our one window of clear roads. It wasn't possible because Glassdaughter and family couldn't move in to watch the animals until today. I can't consider riding south with the unbelievable snow and ice that is currently falling from PA to Richmond, VA. I even looked into a 1 way UHaul but it is $556 plus gas to get me to Richmond. I am shooting for a Wednesday departure IF the roads clear down south by then.

I relate;

in 1998 I had a barn built and had it insulated and heated. I could putter around in it but soon everybody started storing their motorcycles and old sports cars in that barn. Got so there was no room to do anything. So I sold the whole thing and moved downtown Boston into a condo. I keep a KTM in the parking garage but it is still wintered in for months. Last year I finally solved the whole winter misery we suffer back here. I bought a place in Scottsdale and shipped two motorcycles to it; a sportbike and a dual sport. Presto! I've been flying back and forth, but I think I have spent my last winter in New England.

Hope your Wednesday departure works for you. I'll be out west next Saturday... US Airways

Made it out! I am a free man. Left NY around 1 PM yesterday in the snow. roads were clear enough. Most of NY was 17-19 degrees but it did shoot up to 36 in Williamsport PA. Spent the night at my buddy Dan's house and will be heading towards Knoxville shortly. Pics and a better story tonight when I get to a hotel. Time to head out of PA.

OK, back to yesterday AM and departure. I woke up to single digit temps and light snow coming down. I donned my Yukon Cornelius outfit and walked up my ice covered road to check the conditions of the next road. The salted, wet pavement was shrinking and the snow was taking over. Shit again.
An hour or so later I told Glasswife that I wanted to take the car for a ride to see what the main roads looked like. We put the pups in the back of the car and headed out. A couple of miles away the roads were in better shape. We took the dogs for a walk at the local park while I stewed. Then the sun started to come out and the snow let up. By the time we got home the next road over from ours was looking better. Temps rose to 17 so I told her it was time for me to go. I don't think either one of us believed me but I got the tractor out anyway. The FJR was rolled out of the dining room and onto the deck. Then I hooked it up and drove it 1/4 mile to the somewhat cleared road.

Glassdaughter gave me a ride up the road with my trunk, bags, sealion bag, and gear. Ten minutes later (around 1 PM) this ride finally started.
I have a heated vest, grips, real Vetter Hippohands, and Hothands disposable toe warmers. I honestly never got cold the entire 220 or so miles to Carlisle. It never got over 22. It was good to see Dan and his family again.

Much of Rt. 15 in PA looked like this:

Dan and I have been friends and riding buddies since the mid 70s.

This morning I left Carlisle at 11 AM. Temps through PA, MD, and WV never got over 25. Virginia was mostly 29 degrees and snow covered for all but the last 100 miles. There were lit ice storm warning signs along the entire state and they had semis spraying some kind of "Pre storm prep" running most of the state. I wasn't about to stop for anything but gas. Once I crossed into TN it shot up to 45 degrees. I'm in Bull's Run TN for the night and the radar is showing ice coming down about 50 miles behind me. Hopefully it doesn't come this way overnight.
I'm thinking I have two more days until the adventure starts.

edit- Last night was a new all time record March low in Rochester, NY. -9 degrees. Couldn't be happier to not be there.
