Dirt Bikin' Northern Baja California, Mexico

I would have been kinda bummed out about missing the powder skiing today except . . . Brad and I had the dirt bikes loaded in the van, and we were meeting up with Chilly White to ride in Baja!!!!!!! And by the time we drove an hour south of Bend, Oregon we had sunny skies and clear roads.

Sometimes you have to go through hell to get to heaven: Los Angeles traffic. Baja or bust!

After meeting up with Chilly White and fellow riders in San Diego, we headed to a camp ground in Tecate to stage our ride.

Here's the cast of characters:

Chilly White, Enduro360.com
Our affable, able guide. Third place overall in 2013 Baja Rally. Multi-time US ISDE team member. Speaks Spanish. Knows Baja like the back of his hand.

Scott from Idaho
President of his local riding club. Time keeper at races. Idaho City Qualifier finisher. Likes to shoot GoPro videos.

Bob from Minnesota
Races and rides tight woods trails. Known to ride 12 o'clock wheelies. Lives in the Zen of the moment.

Ben from Oregon
Former motocrosser and dealership sales guy. Has a collection of Kawasaki KLX 650s. Fearless. Aussie.

Brad from Oregon
The instigator. Former motocrosser who crossed over to dual sport and adventure riding. Never stops tinkering with his Husaberg.

Gordon from Idaho
Chilly's dad. Lifetime moto fanatic, racer, bike builder. 77 years young. Cooks for Team USA at ISDE world championships. Trusty sweeper.

Olaf of Oregon
Yours truly. Riding dirt bikes since I was six. Dreamer. Inventor. Always fiddling with my gear and how to pack it.

Wow, what a group of ugly faces. I forgot my wet wipes.

Here we are at a brand new spot, somewhere I had never been to before and still has some exploring that need to be done.

Scotty Breauxman said he rode that new single track: "That trail you guys tried to go up (new one). I tackled it solo a few days after you were there. What a bitch...But a great mountain top nonetheless."

I guess we'll just have to go back!

Passed in Tecate.

Harold. We must have missed you on the 7th in Tecate. We were in Baja for 2 weeks. Must have a beer and compare stories.

Chilly threw a little bit of everything at us on day one . . .

From rocky two-track . . .

To sandy single track creek bottom . . . to these cool granite formations . . .

Here are a couple of Bob's shots . . . check out the pictographs!

This was one of the most fun and technically challenging sections of day one - literally riding up a creek bed.
