No. There's an "or" in those rules. If you want to use a no-motion thing, you can. Otherwise, blinky lights.

There's a glimmer of hope, I might be there. I got my next surgery scheduled for the second week of May. Doc says he might let me ride in 6 weeks. That would be the friday before the race. I think this could be doable!

Now, to get past the wife and brand new baby thing.....

Don't let that stop you! Turn signals are easy to install and easy to swap in a tube temporarily.

I have a (broken) rally car. It's more probable that I'd fix that than change how my bike is set up :)

Tubliss is ok, but yes, currently lack of turn signals is a show stopper.

Once again the turn signal requirement keeps another potential competitor away. I've lobbied for some time to have this pointless rule dismissed. And I believe the rule had been waived in the past for a Dakar bike. Talk to Bill Westrick, RallyBill on here. Maybe a promotor will have a little more pull with the rules maker.

Ya' know ya' don't have to have turn signals to be legal in Michigan....just sayin'. I read with much interest until this point was made.

That's the point, turn signals aren't required in most states and aren't used in the rally.

Rally Blitz Drawing for Magnum Opus

Magnum Opus announcement ...

Everyone (cars & bikes) registering and paying on or before April 30, will be entered in a drawing to win a free download of the Rally Blitz iPhone App.

The cool folks at Rally Blitz are throwing support to Magnum Opus by giving us 3 coupons for a free download of their new app.

The Rally Blitz App (http://www.rallyblitz.com/) is the fantasticly simple Smartphone App designed as a GPS alternative for the odometer and CAP heading devices for motorcycle and car rallies. You can read more about the app in this advrider thread.
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=936183

This app is for the iPhone only. If you don't have an iPhone you can give the coupon to their friend, buy a used iphone, etc.

NOTE: The coupons expire 20 days after issue, so you can have the app before the rally but you need to use them or loose them.

We will post the 3 winners in the Magnum Opus thread withing 5 days of the deadline. Good Luck, and get them entries in!!!!

I won't bore anyone with law-talkin'... but I can tell you this: multiple thousands of dollars of insurance are paid for a single day that deal with JUST the road-going portion. Yes, fully half of the cost of the insurance deals with the part where you aren't racing AT ALL.

Unless one of you guys starts up a massive insurance company... we'll be having turn signals, in every state, at every event, for every rally vehicle.

Bigger fish to fry folks. Of all the difficulties of rally were laid out, I don't know that "turn signals" would even rank.

If you are a first time racer at one of these events, you're looking at $250.00 for early entry, $45.00 for NASA membership, and $50 for NASA Rally License?

Why is a Mousse not allowed? Just curious.

Yes, its true. Thats why its better to make more than one event, to get your money's worth out of that annual membership

But nobody complains about the costs, afterwards.

Mousses not allowed because they are non-standard inflationary systems, and "keep the tire functional at less than atmospheric pressure." which basically means you would be riding around on a flat, looked at another way. But looked at that way, you'd have a distinct advantage over another competitor who had to worry about flats. I think that was in the reasoning. Thankfully Bobby reminded me of this rule just before Sandblast...I almost put em in.

In basically the same section I just read where the frame has to be production, not custom, and it bummed me out, considering the new bike being built. Maybe they'll let me race it in the ADventure class, just to see how it does
