I've ridden a number of the great spots in the US and Mexico, and I can say that Western NC, Eastern TN , and the NC / GA / SC border area has some of the best riding you'll find. To be sure, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and other places have spectacular riding as well.

If you'd like to meet up at the Dragon (everyone should ride it once, but there's better roads around), I'll gladly take a day and show you some routes that the locals prefer!

Nice offer

Thanks so much for the offer there. I am most likely going to take you up on that one. I will be in touch as I finalize my route plans in the next few days. Cheers

The count down clock is still ticking and I am sure the excitement level is rising. What a great vacation idea: fly and ride. I'm thinking you should have scheduled a few more days because as you already know, time flies when you are having an adventure! Looking forward to the RR.

Cheers

New Twist

I just realised this is the same time the GP is going in Austin TX so this may add a few more miles to my trip if I drop in there for a half day. Still looking at the map and time frame to see if I want to add this though.

Ok here is the plan thus far...

April 10th

Fly into Columbus, Lonnie is picking me up after flight gets in at 4.45.

Get to bike and load up, ride south towards Deals Gap until excitement passes and tierdness sets in. Find a place to lay my head

April 11th

Ride toward Deals Gap and meet up with JoeyBones who has very generously offered to ride with me for the day and show me some of the great roads in the area. Head off to Nashville for the night where Patmo has offered to show me around and maybe even let me crash on a couch or floor.

April 12th

Ride through Memphis with a stop at Graceland and maybe some other cool sites and then keep motoring toward Austin until the sleep monsters get their way with me. Find a place to lay my head

April 13th

Moto GP race day, try to get to Circuit of the Americas by lunch and watch the races for the afternoon. Yippy

Start heading toward Arizona until the sleep monsters get me again and you guessed it. Find a place to lay my head

April 14th

Not sure yet what route I will be taking as it will depend on how many miles I got under my belt yesterday but I would like to ride the Devil's Hwy and have a little more fun before I head to the house.

How do you guys think this looks on paper?

These girls sent me a special request to stop by on my sexy Honda

It was less than 2 years ago I got a moto license and flew to Richmond Virginia and rode a KLR back to New Mexico (sig line). Looking forward to your ride and good luck.

That explains your other rumored nickname..."Two minute Timmy"

Looks like a good plan Reidy. You're accustomed to long days in the saddle so should be fine. Just watch for the large rats (deer) around Austin. They are everywhere!

Reid,
We had an inch of snow last night after raining most of the day. I'm sure the good weather will reach the central Ohio by the April 10th. As anyone in the Midwest will attest to this has been the longest, coldest, snowiest, worst winter in many many years and spring is long over due. But just in case pack some cold weather clothes, and some snow chains!

Getting ready

I am putting together a box to ship to Lonnie with my gear so i don't have to haul it on the plane. I was able to get the bike registered and insured so I am also shipping my plate and reg which Lonnie is going to put on the bike for me so I can hit the road asap once i get in.

New Helmet in Adventure mode

Now in road bike mode

And the gear I am shipping.

Shopping

Seems whenever a new bike is purchased the shopping is just beginning. It's crazy the cost we pay for the sport we love.

Agreed!

In the end, the bike itself is probably the cheapest part of my riding habit.
