Your reports are my favourites. Love the small villages and towns of this part of Europe. It seems like they have barely changed in centuries. And that TransAlp looks like the perfect bike for there.

Around Barisis-Aux-Bois are many small villages I have visited many times throughout my life, but always a pleasure to go and see them again, and see how they have changed. This have changed a lot since I first started going to France in 1984....and since photography became common also. First stop was Septvaux...

It had been a while since I had climbed up to the church in Septvaux, and this was a relaxed no rush trip this time.....so I took the time to go....

Of course the old and the new may look a little different since the Great War did this to Septvaux....

I've had the good fortune to visit the Mosel area several times over the last 30+ years, unfortunately, always on 4 wheels instead of 2. It's great to see your pictures while I gnaw at the problem of getting myself (& a bike) over there again.
Of course, I'm gripping the green stem of my wine glass filled with chilled Moselblumchen while I work on it.

Now just a taste of the town of Tergnier.

I did not make it inside this time, though I hoped it might be open. I did make note of the hours and next time I am going to get inside this museum....Museum of Resistance and Deportation in Tergnier.

I usually get the old photos AFTER I take the pics during the trip....which is why they almost never match up too well. But I did have one that I actually went looking for this time.....and the difference was shocking....this is in Tergnier...

After Tergnier I headed back towards Barisis Aux Bois and went into the hills above the village to the little Hameau of Bernagouse which is on the plateau overlooking Barisis.....but the trees are so thick so as to obscure the view of the village.

These are the trenches left from World War I.

and the war memorial

Also at Bernagouse in Barisis Aux Bois is the underground hospital that was caved in during the Great War, trapping many inside to their doom, and there is hope that one day this will be turned into a museum as well as a memorial.
