New FJR owner

Never really had anything worthwhile to post until now. Just bought an '05, loaded with extras. This is going to replace my Avalanche as my 400+mi/week commuter ... soon as I get my endorsement, gear and trailer

Bike came with three heaters, gps, bar risers, forward foot pegs, a new windshield, soft bags and a tank bag. Just need the gear and to build a hitch, trailer, frame sliders and gun mount

You are going to commute (presumably in traffic) towing a trailer?
Or did I just take the bait and set the hook on myself?

Going from an Avalanche to a FJR you're in for a real treat. Best of luck.

I've got one just like yours (- the ABS), had it since new in Oct 2005. Great bike, gobs of power and torque, does whatever you want at about 100 lbs. less than the newer ones. You got a nice one!

Thanks for the welcome. No joke ... trailer comes with me everywhere. In traffic and through the highways. This is the ABS model also. I rode it very briefly when I got it home and am already anxious to start riding. I know it's not an adventure bike, per se, but this will take me on my weekly adventures.

The gun mount will be where I holster my EDC, although 'm beginning to think I'll have to make do with a shoulder holster

And thanks for the fjrforum link. I'll go look into that

I love my '09 AE, but wouldn't love it with a trailer... might as well get a 'Wing.

I picked up a factory top case and mount off of eBay for about half what the dealer wanted to order one for. When I went for an 11-day down and back trip to San Jose for a week-long business trip, that and the two side cases let me take a week's worth of business clothes plus my computer backpack, plus extra clothes for the trip down and back, plus a Hennesy Hammock, stove, etc. I used a tank bag for stuff I wanted handy (phone, tablet, water bladder, plus 12v SAE to USB to power everything including tablet, phone, Valentine 1, GoPro, GPS). If I was going to travel the world I'd throw my Giant Loop Coyote bag across the back seat, and I could haul all sorts of additional geat.

What on earth do you need to haul in a trailer? To commute with? I'm curious....

I do commercial remodeling and travel for work, staying in hotels every week, for weeks at a time and am home every weekend. So I not only take my luggage with me, I carry my hand tools and tool cart, as well as a plug-in cooler with the week's worth of food I had prepared at home on the weekends

My immediate concern is how quickly this clutch will wear, constantly towing all this extra weight. So as time goes, I'll be looking for any HD clutch options and might have a custom alternator wound for me, if I can find one ... with these heaters, gps and wanting the trailer lights, plug-in for my cooler and extra lights, I don't want to rely on the stock alternator

These is a guy on here that made a custom dashboad for his to hold his gps, on-board camera and something else. I also onow he started an FJR thread, so when I'm ready, I'm going to use his idea and make changes for mine. That, a seat and exhaust will be the big changes I'm wanting to get done
