Laugh DOT & Twisted Hog's Baja Cerveza Conquest

Here beginneth the lesson:

After knowing each other for years, drinking a few thousand quiet ales together, doing one small motorcycle trip (Sturgis), Mr Hog threw a bee to be firmly planted in my bonnet - let's ride Baja! A week down, a week at Cabo with Mrs Hog and Hogette, and a week back. Trucking Vancouver to San Diego, ride from SD to Cabo, ride back, a plan!

Many, many hours spent on Advrider researching.

Now we talking, knobbies between me and the ground, much more my cup of tea than slicks designed to go to the coffee shop and back, yeah…

So here it is, roughly 2 years after said bee was let loose that Steve (not his real name, it's Twisted Hog) and DOT (sorta his real name, initials actually, but DOT is what I is) are a soon to be embarking on our taste test of Mexico, and things are ramping up.

A bit of background, I am an Aussie that spends winters in Canada, then goes home to winter in Oz, that should give you an idea of my state of mind, summer stinks, think snow, etc, etc. Steve is Canadian and likes beer and motorcycles, nuff said, he can blow his own trumpet. My background on bikes is mainly on the dirt, had a string of DT's, IT's, KTM's, and one of those things that break lots from Italy, current quiver is 1150GSA, R75/5, a just finished rat bike (82 XT550), and my one and only Honda, my beloved postie bike, a CT110 with surfboard rack and fishing rod holders and a big tank to slow it down, I love it.

Over here in Canadia I bought, and Steve picked up for me coz I was half a world away, a 96 KLR650 with 22k on it (we talking kilometres here pals, I don't understand ancient imperial measurements). Running well, it just needed some desert adjustments.

Here it is as picked up:

Here it is now:

Hmm, must take photo of whole bike, it was cold outside…

Anyhoo, stuff that I done did to above sheltered bike:

Barkbusters, decent foot pegs, longer shift lever, handlebar risers, new spark plug, new grips, hd tubes and goo, Mitas E09 Dakar rear tyre, Conti TCK80 front tyre, spare clutch and throttle cables to be carried, new uni filters x 2, new oil filters x 2, new fork oil, new engine oil, oh, and I bought new boots, coz my tech 8's finally exploded in a creek in Oz before I came left.

So…we are leaving in a few days and a bit more, over to you Mr Hog ----->

Mostly time. By throwing the bikes in the back of my truck we can be in San Diego in 2 days.
Sharing driving we won't be tired when we arrive to start our Epic Trip and have 4000km less wear and tear on the bikes at the end of the trip.

Here is the official RR sticker soon to arrive at every refreshment and accomodation stop.

Wishing I was there.......

Looks awesome DOT. Cant help but be wishing i was there with my trusty new DR.....
For me , it will be a humble ride out to Lake Mungo, maybe around through Silverton and part of the Dingo fence before heading back home. Am taking 3 days off between Easter Monday and Anzac day , which gives me 10 days in total to play with..... am thinking i might do the bike thingy in Broadford Vic on the way.
Your KLR has come up well.... it looks great, a bit cleaner than what i'm used to seeing you ride , but that will change ....
See you when you get back mate !

twisted-hogs KLR porn

This is my horse to get me to the cerveza watering holes.

Lightly modified with jet kit, Vance & Hines exhaust, do-hickey, Uni foam airfilter, barkbusters, crashbars fore and aft tested in the mud, so I should have no worries in Baja where there is no mud .
TKC80 front and Mita Dakar 09 in the rear.

Plus a few stickers to bring in the sponsorship $ , any takers?

Laugh What a Noob wears in Baja

I admitt it I'm a noob when it comes to dirt riding. Mostly ridden street bikes most of my life and last few have been cruisers so I had to have the leather costume to go with it, no, not that kind of costume, but to think of it there is no ass in my leather chaps .
So about 4 years ago I picked up my KLR and have been having a blast, just playing riding to work and the odd dirt road when time permitted on a weekend.

So now to do this trip I had to aquire a whole new riding wardrobe $ ouch.

A Joe Rocket Hybrid helmet, Thor Impact Rig, Thor Sand Goggles, Klim Dakar pants, Klim Jersey, Klim technicial shorts, Klim MX socks getting the picture, lots of Klim. Gaerne boots and some Watson Armour gloves and the one important piece a 3 litre camelbac.
Also just taking a Viking rain shell and a few pairs of Under Armor shirts and undies.

Been trying to get out riding to get it dirty but the weather here has been horrible, I would get it dirty and then all the pissing down rain would wash off the dirt.
And to carry all me goodies I got me a Wolfman Mini Beta Bag and Wolfman Enduro Tank bag.
