2002 Scorpa 250 2T Long Ride for new to trials rider

What does the collective have to say about these as a beginners trials bike for an intermediate (ie Hare Scramble racing and extensive single track experience) off road rider?

Any problems to look out for?

Any ideas what a fair price for a fair condition bike should be?

Thanks in advance.

The 2-stroke-Yamaha-motor-based Scorpas are excellent bikes. They handle very stably and have very mellow motors, thus not a handful to low-skill riders. Very reliable. No serious gotcha problem that I know of.

Price will vary according to condition. Don't know the price. The design is modern, so in view of new prices I'd think $2,500 would be a good price? If the bike is in functionally new condition and the price is right, you'd be quite happy a long time. You could ride that bike a decade. Just don't ever buy a beater, no matter how cheap.

I recently purchased a 2003 SY 250 and the only problem I found with mine was the common center exhaust box split. The previous owner said he had no issues with the muffler but I found the problem after removing the exhaust in order to clean the carburetor. Sent the box off to Mike at the Tryals Shop in NY who did an outstanding job which included reinforcing the muffler to prevent any future problems. Also good idea to grind down the sharp corner of the serial number block as it cuts into the center box. I wanted the Scorpa for the Yamaha engine and very happy with the build quality and parts used on the bike. Good luck and enjoy!
