1100gs transmission noise

I recently acquired a '95 1100GS with 41,000 miles. the build date is 3/94, so it should have a M94 tranny. it has pretty good maintenance records & no history of drive problems. it runs strong & shifts well, no unusual sounds when I drive it, but it has a very pronounced whirr in neutral. it goes silent when the clutch is pulled in. best guess from a pro is mainshaft bearing getting loose (tapered design). obviously the right answer is to rebuild the box with the new style bearing. ... I can't do that right now, sooooooooooooo.........

how long until it explodes? will it go with no warning?

Mine did the same thing.
Input shaft bearing.

Replaced the tranny with a used M97.

Well I will tell you that mine did that for a year and a half until I finally got it fixed.
Input shaft bearing ,weeping seals, clutch, had to replace all kinds of things.
As I said, ended up swapping the tranny for a used M97.

Funny thing was, it ran fine, shifted fine.
The clutch didn't even slip.
Probably would have kept riding it like that except the nuetral light would only come on in 2nd gear by the time I finally bit the bullet.

It never did explode, like you say.

Here's the thread I started about my problem a while back.
Good luck.
I see I never did update that thread with the fact that I ended up swapping transmissions.
