Texting driver causes own death

...and not the death of the oncoming driver. For once. Thank Heaven.

Woman, 32, dies in head on crash seconds after Facebook post from behind wheel about how she loved Pharrell hit Happy

A 32-year-old North Carolina woman is dead after slamming her car head-on into a truck while posting selfies and a Facebook update about how happy she was while listening to a Pharrell song.
Courtney Sanford, of High Point, crossed the center median of a busy road Thursday morning just after making the post, hit a recycling truck and died, police said. Further inspection of her phone revealed pictures posted online only minutes earlier.

The humanist in me should be thinking of Donne ("Any man's death diminishes me..."). At the moment, it just isn't happening.

This is worse than alcohol. Driving is too boring to demand much attention. She wasn't texting while driving, she was driving while texting.

Somewhere, Darwin is making a little checkmark on the inside of his coffin...

Cute PSA, but everyone knows the horse is smarter than the driver/rider...

This is the reason I get worried when my friends complain that they can't get their snot-nosed toe-gazers to show any sign of interest in learning how to drive. First order of priority has to be breaking the umbilical cord to that goddamned "smart" phone before encouraging them to climb behind the wheel.

Same here. I hope the other driver is okay.

Natural selection worked for her.

Yay!

Another anonymous (to me) cager dead! Thank fuck for that. Can't wait for the next unknown cager to die so I can come here and gloat about it.

...

I wonder if there's a car forum gloating about the bikers who die every day because of mistakes made by the biker.

texting while driving is NOT a mistake. It's a chosen act.

Ok so someone died. Maybe because this person wasn΄t concentrating on the road ahead, like everybody should. Still feel no joy about all this. Seems kinda macabre to me, to ΄celebrate΄ something like this. Some kids may very well be without a mother, for example.

Just as going into a bend too fast is a chosen act. Failure to check your blind spot. Riding a poorly serviced bike. Not wearing appropriate gear. Pulling a wheelie. Grabbing too much front brake or not enough. Following the bike in front too closely and on and on and on goes the list.

As you can see, the list of mistakes that a biker can make that leads to death is pretty long. We don't celebrate those deaths.

The cager made a mistake. And paid for it with her life. Let's not celebrate that.

I was gonna say that, its a free choice and well proven to be life threatining.

My niece rear ended a car in LA while texting, smashed her Audi.
Within a month she was texting while driving and admits she cant stop it.
