KTM 990 SMT vs TIGER 800

Hi everyone, first post but Ive read loads of threads in the past, so thanks for all the advice already here. And, sorry if this is in the wrong place

Im really stuck, I recently sold the sports bike and want something I can do a bit travelling on and at 62 with 35 legs the 600rr was never going to work.

But, Im really stuck between 2 bikes, quite different bikes really.
The KTM 990 SMT or the Triumph Tiger 800 (probably the XC).

Anyone had both and can compare?

KTM - I like the fun factor but dislike the low tank range and little things, lack of fuel gauge etc. Its also expensive and probably costs a lot to run.
TIGER I like the looks and things like the adjustable seat, fuel gauge, take range etc. Maybe it will be a little slow and I may find the limits of its cornering ability quickly. Im not a fan of the looks of the 1050.

Any thoughts please.

In my opinion owning both brands recently, I like the crank and ride reliability of the Triumph. My KTM was pretty maintenance intensive and was not nearly as refined but major fun. I rode the XC and it was slow but can be vastly improved with a pipe and remap pretty cheaply or you can get the Arrow can outfitted at the dealer before purchase. I am sure you will find the tiger much more comfortable and will handle like stink with streety tires. Just my opinion.

Definitely factor in time and cost of maintenance for the KTM. however factor in price of power and suspension upgrade for the tiger

Would you not still need to upgrade to some spokes to equal an XC as you listed. Bikes like the 990 and the XC LOVE some fire roads

2 great options

You have summed it up well. For livability-you will love the Tiger. For a kick in the pants-KTM!

Ever consider a 955 Tiger? You are pretty tall.

Cheers everyone.

I'm still none the wiser. But, I'm going to book a test on the tiger and see how it goes.

I was riding my dad's 1050 today. Maybe I need to look at the newer 1050. It is a good bike.
