This thread doesn't change much, the Rossi haters come to the surface really quickly always saying he's passed it. Then all the ready racers tell how it should have been done, the top grid would be rooly fast if some of the blokes on this thread were to go racing

In hindsight, Jorge and Rossi's strategies didn't work out. It was really a matter of minutes, and if one of the other guys had stacked it, everything could have changed.

I suspect Rossi will come through quickly, as he's been very aggressive during early laps of late. Hopefully he and Jorge are able to avoid getting cleaned out in the early going.

Can't spot Marquez three rows and expect to beat him, though!

Perhaps Dovi summed up Qualifying best;

Yeah I know all that. Get him a factory bike. He'll never podium on what he's got.
My point is that he has tons of talent.

I kept thinking this the whole time. Instead of joining the bunch on the outlap, wait 30 seconds and have an empty street.. Or slow down and get behind everyone. Even if they all would have thought that, they would at least have spread out and had a chance for a good lap.

While it was to a large extent a lottery, EsA used it to the fullest, and was really clever about it, so it wasn't entirely a lottery after all.

wow, an eventful moto3 race underway.. Jack Miller crashed out from the lead on lap 2. Fenati also went to the kitty litter, stayed upright but dropped to below 30th -- now risen back to 8th(!!)... And just as I type this, Fenati crashes but remounts on 22nd position!

It's hard to know what really went on out there.

From reading accounts from a few different riders, I've an idea that Lorenzo and Marquez did just that - slowed down - but part of the problem was that when other riders noticed they had slowed, they wondered what they'd been missing and slowed themselves.

Marquez then decided to race back to the front. Lorenzo said later that he wished he hadn't slowed from the front. But it's a very high-speed circuit and a lot is at stake, which Lorenzo knows better than most.

Remember, once you slow down, you have basically lost the lap you are on. If you slow and wait on the warm-up lap, then you lose your chance to warm your tyres properly for the next lap.

Rossi said he made some space on his first flying lap and was giving it a good go on his second flying lap but that the rain had got heavy enough by the end of that lap that he had to slow down. He said that if the rain had held off for another 30 seconds he'd have got a good grid slot.

And of course, the winners' decisions always look good. If Marquez and Pedrosa had both crashed and done collarbones, Lorenzo and Rossi would both look like wise men.

Looking forward to the race.
