Another Northerner trekking to slay the Dragon

The route: Toronto, ON, CDN to Tellico Plans, TN

2 days to get there, 4 days to explore, 3 days to get home.

I can't wait

I'm leaving Sunday to get as far as I can but not beat myself up getting to Tennessee.

I have put the street shoes on the bike...it always amazes me the difference in handling between the TKC 80's and the Pirelli's.

This will be my first solo overnight trip as my usual riding buddy had other commitments come up and he couldn't join me.

The packing is almost complete, routes are planned...praying for good weather!

You won't be disappointed. All of the roads down there are fantastic.

Dress cool. It's supposed to be in the 90s. A friend from Missasauga(sp?) used to come down here to ride with our group quite a bit back in the 80s and 90s. Another friend from Quebec has come down a couple of times, too. Good people from Canada. We had fun. I'm sure you will, too.

A quick update before I call it a night. Got to get to Telico Plans tomorrow and I really don't want to do it in the rain.

getting ready

all packed up and ready to go

Ended up loosing my home made headlight cover on the I90 in Buffalo. It flew off, smacked me in the face and disappeared forever...

somewhere on the 219

first gas stop and lunch in Ellicottville! Nothing fancy but time is not on my side.

These clouds will end up stopping me latter...

In DuBois Pennsylvania this got interesting for me. The first gas station stop

I had to pee like no tomorrow so I moved to one that was open

There was some really close lighting strikes and then the air raid sirens went off.. Was it a flood waning, tornado warning, lighting warning? The girl at the gas station had no clue...A kid walking by said it was for the volunteer firefighters to respond to the station.

The rain lets up and I'm off again.

Hoping that I'm not going to get wet again

Final gas stop for the day in Sommerset

Days end treat

I have to fix the images tomorrow...

Weather is looking better for the next few days but I swear in the Smokies you can predict the weather better by flipping a coin. Welcome to Tennessee - Any road on the map that is curvy is a good road.

The day started out wet and I thought that I was in for a long soggy ride.

Things did improve and I managed to stay dry for the rest of the trip down! Now if I had only had the GPS dialed in correctly, I wouldn't have been lulled into a false sense of when I was going to get to my destination.

Pit stop somewhere I don't remember.

Lunch...this is ending up as a common lunch on this trip.

Somewhere about 3 hours outside of Knoxville (I think) I scared the crap out of a guy in a SUV. For about 5 miles I thought that something on my bike was burning...but there was no signs of anything. Then at a stop light I see his back wheel area smoking I walk by bike up to his side window and get him to roll it down. Just as it did a plume of smoke drifted by. He thanked me very much and pulled off at the next exit. Car fire avoided for sure or a breakdown in a bad spot.

Days end total...

Iron butt practice??

Yesterday's fun!!

My address for the next few days...A great place to stay, the owners are fantastic and it's close to all the riding you want. I opted for the air conditioned cabin...

Top of the Cherohala

Another smoky mountain shot.

Lunch!!

Pulled pork and sweet potato fries!

Had to take a pic with the dragon in the background...I have to find my Killboy shots.

Dinner...Brisket and coleslaw from Krambones. It was outstanding!!!

Home again

Day 2 was to Suches and further south it was fantastic!!

Day 3 was 64 to almost 28 and found a dirt road off of Wayha rd NC, that followed a hydro tower line. I would have had more fun if I had my dirt tires!

better updates soon.
