Catalonian knife sharpener. This guy toured around the local restaurants sharpening their knives on his modified scooter. It had a belt driven directly off the end of engine fan to his grinding wheel.

Cold and rainy but I rode anyway. Kinda of cool thinking that there probably is not any Blackjacks in the museum.

Newest addition..
2005 Kymco People 50
Scratched up, salvage title, and pretty sure it's a theft recovery. But, it runs good.. Parts are relatively cheap, and I'm not afraid to rattlecan parts.. I bought it to ride to work/whatever so I just want to make it somewhat presentable.. On the other hand it's fun to have a conversation starter.
Working on it when I can. It's in my kitchen this winter.

Bulletproof pre-China engine, good catch.

It was luck..
It's got 5K km's on it and runs great.. Now to get all the minor tidbits fixed, but that's part of the fun.. And I'm shocked at how inexpensive OEM parts are.

They actually should be among the most expensive for a 50cc scoot,
especially the drive belt and rollers, but they last twice as much as some
other stuff does, so that's money well spent.

Get everything else where ever you like, just get the original belt and rollers.

I was just looking at the replacement stuff.. Both levers are toast (one bent, one broke) and they're only $14 each. The seat is sun baked and cracking, and it's only $60, and I need a couple other odds and ends.. Maybe this is expensive in the scooter world, but cheap when it comes to bikes, for OEM stuff..

But even the plastic is cheap as compared to bikes.. I also try to remember I'm a BMW rider since 1987, so I expect parts to be a little on the pricey side.

I'm not doing anything performance related. It'll do better than 40mph, and I'm just using it for farting around and my 9 mile ride to work, which is all at 40 or less. If I want to go FAST, I have a 1993 Honda Helix..

But again, thank you for the info on it. I'm glad I bought something considered to be bullet proof.. I've only had a chance to ride it about 1 miles so far, as I bought it a month ago. It popped right off and I'll go through it and change the fluids and make sure it's reliable and safe, and comfortable. Maybe a nice medium size top box to carry lunch and hide my helmet.

I haven't had a 50cc scooter for years and I'm amazed how much faster it is than my old Honda Spree. The 16" wheels make a huge difference, too!!

I had a 2 year job with Kymco.. so.. I know the ins and outs.

Yeah, you can't compare that to motorcycles, especially BMW part prices.

Here in EU, anything for a Kymco is usually twice as expensive then for an
Italian scooter. Jap scooters are usually somewhere in between. Of course,
every one of them in their respective classes.

The air cooled Made in Taiwan scoots from Kymco are as good as it gets
re reliability. For perfomance I'd look elsewhere since this thing has
somewhere around 3,5hp, and 50cc scoots go up to 6hp stock in some
cases.

If you got hills around you, you might run into some issues because they
tend to gear all their 50cc scoots the same, and not take into account
the size of the wheels. 16s are the "slowest" kind, so, some people benefit
from messing around in the CVT.

You'll see how it goes first.

Even more great info!! Thank you VERY VERY MUCH!!!

I test rode a Aprilia a while back, and while it had really good power and was adult sized, it'd sat outside and had some electrical and minor mechanical issues that I felt were too much when considering the asking price. So I passed.

I also kicked around buying this 2003 Piaggio LT 50 (Vespa) Moped/Scooter - $1100 (Waunakee) http://madison.craigslist.org/mcy/4250718293.html and I offered him $900, but he's stuck on his price of $1100.

It's probably worth his asking price, but it's been for sale for 2 months and he bumps the ad about every other day. He's just north of one of the biggest scooter towns in the area and nobody has bitten. I emailed him and explained my offer, and told him it's still on the table if he's interested.

I don't need it, but it's nice and in great shape.. And I can talk myself into anything.

Thanks again, and have a Merry Christmas!!

I'm currently in Taipei and there are trillions of scooters around, only seen one BMW, a few mondo Japanese models and no Aprillias that I've noticed.

Still waiting for my damned motor that I sent to High Gain Tuning 14 MONTHS ago!!!!

Captn, did you and the wife wear the inverse of corresponding scoot colored shirts on purpose in the Christmas photo?

Nice pics.
