She has arthritis in both hands and sqeezing a clutch lever repeatedly isn't possible. The scooter makes riding a reality for her.

hi all

Here's my better half piloting a scooter for the first time.
It's a pretty peaky 88cc MadAss with 4 speed trans, but she did great! Doesn't ride it much solo, preferring to ride pillion down to the beach or around town, but if need be she can now do it.

Lucky yes, wise could be debated.

I set out one Saturday to buy a Honda Big Ruckus for me and came home with the Helix for her. She had such a big smile on her face when she sat on the Helix that I was helpless. I'd never give up riding for a woman but I'd sure help her get started!

BTW, Doug, she enjoyed your pictures of the Helix ride to AR. She has kin folk down that way.

Neat! She looks good on it, like it fits her well. And congrats on her passing the BRC.

My scoot is a huge help with my hip/spine arthritis. I can still ride a regular motorcycle but the scoot makes it practically effortless. I'm looking forward to some ride reports from y'all!

Thanks for the congrats, I'll pass it along.

The funny thing is that Debbie did nearly all her riding on her 50cc Ruckus and only had maybe 20 miles on the Helix before she took the BRC with it. I'd have thought the scooter would make the class easier, in some ways it did, but the Helix has a really long wheel base, longer than my Concours 1000, so the tight maneuvers were particularly challenging. Never the less, the instruction she got was first rate and made all the difference in the world.

Hopefully once the weather here in AZ gets below 1,000° during the day we can get out an resume riding and take pictures and have actual fun.

A couple of more pictures below from the class so we can stay on topic. I had great fun taking pictures while Debbie sweated.

Thanks, windburn. I really wasn't expecting her to do so well (I'll spare you the details). With good instruction in the class success built on success and she passed easily. Debbie is 5'1" on a good day so the low seat height of the Helix gives her the ability to get her feet flat on the ground and all of us inseam challenged people know how much easier that can make things when you can start moving from a stable position.
