Been in the road two weeks. Rode roughly 1200 miles before getting to Cortez, Co where I rode the COBDR and an awesome 675 miles off road. Finished the route today and now my bike is acting up... Staying in Craig, Co and hopefully figuring out why its making this horrendous knocking sound. A couple riders think it's my water pump... Been an epic adventure. Wish I could upload photos from my phone.

27 riders started the KLR rally and so far only 8 have finished.

I'm doing the opposite: leaving Albuquerque in the next couple months and moving back home to Washington state. We should compare notes.

Where in NM will you end up? There's lots of good riders here and year round riding in the dry.

I'll be just outside of Albuquerque, in Rio rancho. I got a small taste of the riding in NM on my way to Cortez from Dixon. Blew my mind. I had met a rider who also informed me that Rio rancho was right on the edge the desert with some pretty awesome riding. Looking forward to solving my issue with the KLR so I can get down there and start working...

here are some photos of my 2,000 mile journey. Washington to Idaho, Montana, Idaho again, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, back to Colorado and back to New Mexico. My bike ran damn near flawless about 90% of the route until the last stretch. still figuring out whats wrong with it.

I'll be working on a ride report sometime in the future...

Good start Roach.
I will have to read back through re the bike probs, & the big yellow bag you've had to add along the way...it's just you on the bike right?

Good luck with the bike issue.

The yellow Wolfman are clothes, chef coats, shoes and other things I need for the move to NM but not for the KLR rally and such. So glad I didn't have it with me climbing the 10,000 ft passes hahaha

Yeah i have 1, great bag but sits high. Any way that you can send contents on to your destination in a box, maybe you use it along the way for occassional work...
I suppose the saddle bags (boxes) keep most weight down low.

So are you scanning the KLR websites for guidance on the engine prob?

I was able to unload and leave the 35lb Wolfman bag at another riders house in northern new Mexico for the rest of the ride. Put the front tire on down there and also had rear tire waiting for me there as well. Mt21 front and d606 rear were a great combo for the off reading in NM and CO.

I've searched and searched and asked about the noise the engine makes but no luck. I have to tear into the bike to know for sure. Im too chicken shit and I dont have any gaskets or cash to take it somewhere. Gotta find some work. Which sucks cause I need the bike to get to and from work when I find one lol
