5 day ride Philippines

Hi Guys,

Myself and a few guys are going next year to the Philippines for a 5 day ride.

This is the plan so far:
Fly into Manila, van to Angles City, hire the bikes from NiceBike,
XR200's, then thinking of riding down to Subic Bay / Bar Barretto and
stay at Arizona Resort as i know the guys there.

Then head north and up into the mountains.
What is the best way to go ?
What are some places to check out ?
Do you think we should take a local ?
Or support truck ?

Cheers

I can tailor a ride for your group, tell me how many hours (max) on the road you can do on a day.

goodluck and happy planning!

KASUYAHO, I have gone up the Zambales coast up to Lingayen, on to La Union,
to Tagudin, left to Cervantes, and over into the Mountain Province. Sagada and the rice terraces are good to see. I don't know how far you want to go in a day, so a route like this maybe too much for five days.

DO NOT ride after dark. Many drive with no lights.

Enjoy your trip.

The Lonely Planet Philippines book has a lot of helpful information on travel here in the PI. One thing I like is it has a lot of information in a very compact form. Many maps and info about towns etc.

You have some time before your trip to brush up on the Philippines from a trips view.

Looking at riding 8 hours day and try and get in as much dirt as possible is the plan.

We will bring over our own riding gear but whats the go with helmets ?
i read that we have to use helmets sold in the philippines or get a sticker and put that on our helmets ?

Helmet should be no problem. I have a SHOEI. The sticker is what is called an ICC Quality Mark sticker. Several products have them on the packaging or on the item itself. The package light bulbs come in have the ICC sticker.

vinzsalvador, Welcome to Adventure Rider. I noticed that you had asked some questions regarding a new rider etc. I hope that you got the information you wanted. You need to understand that from time to time you will get a smart ass reply. (you got one already I see.)

Am I correct in thinking that you are now in the Philippines? The reason I ask, is I believe you were in the US and asked some bike questions. There are many of us here at ADV Rider that have been around motorcycles for many years and are happy to talk motorcycles so ask away. And like everything else, we all have different opinions, so keep that in mind.

Good luck on your riding on Luzon ...

I'm down on Cebu and have only ridden that far north once ...There has got to be plenty of riding in that area ... Luzon is a huge land mass as compared to the rest of the islands here...

I'd guess most of it is totally safe but always listen to the locals ... If they say something is bad, just listen ... You're just a vacation guy here ... Only so much can happen in your short time here and you do do wanna waste any time.

A guide can be helpful but not really needed ... Lots of the locals can help if any bike issues arise ... When they see a group foreigners, they know what to do :) ... And as long as you stay somewhat close to the larger populated area, many can speak some english ...

If you have friends there, just go with what they say ...

YnotJP, Hi bro. I'm currently here in Monument, CO for vacation only. I'm part of a motorcycle club in the Philippines as well. Since I'm a bike enthusiast I wanted to maximize my time here in the US and make the most out of it and of course to spend it with motorcycle fans here in the US.

I'm glad that you made a reply and welcomed me here in the forum. I really appreciate it. Thanks man!

Hi guys and Gals,

This is the plan so far.

Might have Arizona Resort getting involved,
http://www.arizonasubic.com/
Gav the manager at the resort will run it by Tommo the owner to see if Tommo is keen.

Nicebike in Angles City has around 15 XR200's so may go that way,
but in saying that we also might try to see if some bike brands want to get involved in the ride.
Also the guys who want to bring there wives could hire BMW's or larger bikes.

The ride will be a way to make some money for a safe house for children.

The Route:

Arrive at Manila, van ride to Angles City,
should be feeling like a drink by then,
I heard there are a few bars in Angles City so have a drink there.

The next day, get the bikes and ride the old way
from Anglels City to Subic / Arizona Resort.
4 hour run 50% dirt.
Get to Arizona for a seafood BBQ early dinner,
hit the floating bar and stay the night there.

Next day either do a loop out of Subic and back to Arizona Resort,
or head north.

Looking at having a support van for the gear too
