Here's a beautiful bit of authentic kit... ![]() The owners of these fine MV Agustas rode together in the "Taglioni" class of the '04 Motogiro. I believe they were Belgian and had almost identically prepped bikes and gear. The sound these two bikes made together was spine tingling. Raspy growl, with all kinds of sweet mechanical clatters and whines, accompanied by the howl from the open velocity stacks. Grrrrr. I know, not really ADVRider/Scooter appropriate, but cool nonetheless. Cheers, |

I think they're absolutely appropriate; I've always mentally lumped the Vespa/Lambrettas into that era and tied them all together culturally somehow, even though I know there were chasms between some groups. I think it's a design thing (such sweet, organic lines combined with the naked engines) combined with the raw spirit it must've taken to ride fast on any machine that's based on old technology, regardless of displacement. For some reason, bikes of that era just look "proper" to me. Same for the old leathers and Davida helmets. There's just something classy to them, along with the riders who dealt with the challenges they faced with machines that were much more hands-on than they are today in terms of finessing the mechanicals to keep 'em running.
