      Hi jonz
My GF and I are planning a camping trip to Madison/Yellowstone next summer and want to ride in W. Yellowstone. Just wondering if you've ridden this trail, I think it's called Lion Head Mountain loop. It's called FS 1791 on google. If you have ridden it is it a decent trail? Any general tips about the trail or area would be helpful!

Here's the trail on google maps: https://tinyurl.com/qdkw985

      Thanks

I ride that trail once a week or so. It's right across Hwy 20 from my house. Very scenic. It's a quad trail so not single track. There are some moderately technical switchbacks and a couple of rocky climbs. Gets slick in the switchback area if it rains.

We plan to visit in July. Would there be any snow on the trail mid summer? My plan would be to start near the Motel 8/Denny Creek rd, then hop on FS1791 and come out hwy 20 again. I'd just be worried the GF couldn't handle the climbs. Thanks for the reply!

Snow cover varies hugely by year. No snow this year when the trails opened June 16. Last year, there were several drifts in shady spots for opening day. All pretty much gone by early July. I usually start that ride by going north down Denny Creek Rd which makes a 90 degree right turn right where the ATV trail goes off to the left.

Google Ridaho. Should take you to the Grit. I don't have time to do it all, just want a sample.

I'm serious about going to Idaho if you want to go. I'm leaving Friday afternoon (11th) and coming back a Sunday night (13th). I was over there on the KLR and saw a lot of opportunity for single track. I'd like to ride/camp/ride repeat but could be swayed to modify my plans if it meant I wasn't solo. You should plan on it, for my safety of course.

I'd say there's a 50/50 chance I can go but will have to wait til closer to the date to make a final go/no go decision
