Heat pumps are great. There will be a point that they can no longer extract heat from the outside air, and their hearing abilities will fall away pretty quick. Depending on where you are, that may not even be a factor. The model specifications should list what its heating range is. As a point of reference, the heart pumps that I have installed up here (Minnesota) have had no problems heating into the teens.

Still a work in progress. Garage space comes at a high price here, so you have to be clever with the space you have. There is a small staircase at the back leading a workshop. Hopefully I am closer to done when winter hints as the workshop will be much warmer than the garage.

A good friend just bought this. Fully insulated, heated, and cooled.

The jeep snowblower is in the far left corner of the second pic. Big shop.

I love it! I'm a huge fan of "cargotecture" especially when it's executed as well as you've done. Nice work!

Nice selection of rolling stock too.

Very cool! If you don't mind I have a couple of questions: How are the "cans" joined along their long axis? What did you use for the roof?

    Thanks!

    This is great. Awesome job.

This is pretty awesome! Great work! Where do you source containers like that? Did you insulate at all (it's hard to tell, but doesn't look like it)? How did you run electric to it and get outlets throughout the garage? Any plumbing? Did you pour a concrete pad or just set it on the ground? Some photos look like it is sitting on blocks, others it's on the ground, and the finished product looks more like a concrete pad. Seems to me that this would be a pretty cheap way of putting a garage up as long as you aren't scared of doing some work. Sorry for all the questions... not really :) looks great.

Thanx a lot !! The containers are 40x8x8 each and we have used two so basically what we have done is put each container 8 feet apart so instead of getting 40x8x16 we got 40x8x24 and cut open one entire side on each and welded the removed side as the roof like you can see in pics 2 and 3 . Let me know if you need any more details . Cheers

Thanx a lot!! A friend sourced them for me from a shipping company in chennai they were used containers but in fairly good shape, the height on these is just 8 feet so not much scope of insulating inside so what we have done is put a heat absorbing cloth two feet above the roof (it was done after these pics) which cuts the heat by 50 percent and also have 6tons of airconditioning for the 960sft

Now the garage sits in my cousins farm house so we just pulled a cable for electricity from the house and we are in the process of making a toilet on the outside (pic attached) so have done the plumbing on the outside the entire job was done by my cousin who's farm it is and initially the plan was for the containers to sit on four blocks each but since it was a farm and there was a chance of snakes going into the bottom so my cousin made it a concrete pad with no gaps it was a tough job and all the credit goes to him and yes it cost us half of what a concrete structure of this size would to build , the only advantage there would have been the height we would not have been restricted to 8 feet

I suppose you could've tried buying two more and then cutting the ceilings out of them and stacking them for extra height. I like the concept though. Thanks for posting.

Nice. I have a friend that owns a house with a "garage" which actually is a hangar. He parks his Beechcraft Baron and 6 motorcycles in there. Quite a sight.

Yes could have done that too , with these there are many options but with our limited resources this was a monumental task so in the given conditions this was the best we could do
