Anyone use a dirt helmet as an adv all weather helmet? I would like to take mine over a road helmet for trips but in the unliklihood event of rain, it's downright miserable. Plus it gets cold, around 50 degrees at night and early morning. My current balaclava isn't waterproof, just gets soaked and freezes my skin while dumping water into my jacket.

    Thoughts?

Ya, wear a full helmet :D

With a dirt helmet, the internal padding is still going to soak up water, become heavy, drip down your neck in to your jacket, and transfer heat from your head. I wear a Klim Balaclava under any helmet if it's really cold. But none of theirs are water proof. I'd bet even if you find some that are waterproof, it's only going to be the skirt.

Ditto with Yooper Bob. I wear my dirt helmet sledding with a Klim Arctic Balaclava underneath.

Balaclava underneath. Breath deflector in the helmet. Good dual-pane goggles.
