My inmate name is Braveteacher. You see, I’m a high school guidance counselor at Boone High School in Orlando, Florida. Our mascot is a brave Indian—hence, Braveteacher has been my code name for the last 17 years. Motorcycling has been a part of my life since middle/high school (some 30+ years ago), but I have never gone on an adventure with two wheels for more than a couple hours. So, earlier this year, I decided that I was going to put some miles on my 2015 Bonneville. Work less this summer and ride more….car pe diem…and every other cliché saying you can come up with. A friend/neighbor and fellow inmate (Stuff2C), came over the other day to critique my gear. He is an experienced Florida to Alaska (and many other trips) two-wheel trip kind of a guy. After an hour of pouring over my gear and some great conversation, he told me the story of when he was planning his trip to Alaska. He asked his boss for a month off. His boss replied, “Can you afford to go?” and Jerry’s response has become my moto: “I can’t afford not to go!” So, if you are looking to follow a trip for 30 days around the U.S. from coast to coast, I’m your forum. The loose plan is from Daytona, June 11th (toes in the water with pictures) to Arkansas (visit parents) to Oklahoma (visit my best friend from High School – it’s been 25 years or so) to Idaho (rendezvous with family in Yellowstone) to California, Redwood National Forest, up Oregon coast, East to Sturgis, South to Mt. Rushmore, Memphis to see Elvis, then home and back to work July 11th. Stuff2C said to get home late on the last day and sleep at work. HeHeHe. I hope you enjoy following the post, and maybe we will see each other on the road.
