I found one for a great price from a guy I know but need to know if these are a great reliable car, or a brutal POS.

Particulars, 2005, 65K original, 5 speed, 2.0, ZX3 trim package excellent like new condition.

My mother owned 2 of them...not a problem, ever...just normal preventative maintenance. If it is a great price and you want it...don't hesitate to purchase it.

I know two guys with zx3 on the 200k's miles.

And they did not look like they had even 50k.

Paint holds well in the heat.

I have an 07 ZX5. 115K. Only issue is they eat tires. Had to replace the alternator at 110K and the brakes around the same time. This car does 500 miles a week and I've never had any issues. Add oil and keep driving. I plan on driving it another 115K at least.

    Big issues:

Bad Ground wires between engine and chassis, causes alternator issues.

    Little issues:

    Wheel Bearings

I've got an 02 SVT Focus and I love it.

I had an 01 Focus, I would drive a diesel Chevette daily before I would own another Focus.
More recalls than a Chevy Citation, wore rear tires out quicker than a top fuel drag car.

Getting t boned by a hit and run driver was the best thing that ever happened to it.

Ended several years of Ford ownership for me as the company would do nothing to properly fix the many issues it had.:deal

I paid $2200 for an '05 Hyundai Ellantre with 85k last year. Put another 20k on it. Debating on timing belt, etc., or just running it until it dies.
Just saw your low miles, sounds good, but offer $4k cash. Title costs and all that

looks like new, no issues at all no check engine light. I also know the history of it and it has only had one parking lot fender bender which was professionally repaired with a new fender and paint. I think this is under BB and it is a 5 speed.....2 door, but it's white...which isn't horrid.

I wouldn't hesitate. My family has a fleet of these fucking things and none have given any grief. (Ford employees love getting their good deals.) With those miles, and so long as the rest checks out all good (A/C working properly, tires/brakes in good shape...), sounds like a fair price.

Someone will be along shortly to tell you to get a fucking Civic or a Corolla for similar money. Tell them to eat a bowl of chocolate starfish.

Problem is, every Civic I see with a similar price, has 135K on it.......or more! And most are girly ass Automatics.Oh and a couple extra doors.

I don't support the Civic idea at all. Just wanted you to brace the bunghole for the Honda/Toyota fan-boys that will inevitably show up.

No I knew that. I just was filling you in on what I see here. Somehow these Civic owners think they are made of silver. One guy has a friggin base model 98 Civic Cpe, 106K 5 speed and wants $5000.00 firm! The thing retail on KBB is 2400!

I mean sure the well maintained Civic will go 250K but if it already has 135 on it, that is half way thru it's life, this ZX3 is like 1/6th thru its life from what I hear they go.

I hear most people get a couple hundred K off the Focus. I drove one and it was pure fun too, unlike a standard Civic which was OK, but didn't hit the funometer near as well as the little Focus ZX3.

Dad's had two Focuses- an '00 sedan, and now an '07 ZX3. Both base-model 5-speeds. His wife had an '04 (?) sedan that she gave to her son, mid-trim automatic. None died a natural death- the '00 was traded off because it was close to needing a clutch and he didn't like the '08s, the '04 was wrecked, and the '07 is still going strong.

I've driven both of Dad's cross-country, and averaged somewhere around 37 mpg both times.

The '00 was least-impressive, but it didn't really cost him that much over the 115k he ran it. I still wouldn't own an '00 Focus, though- too many headaches. The '07 is a nicer car- more power, slightly more comfortable*, more reliable so far - 63k miles. The hatch is a better configuration unless you use the back seat a lot, IMO. I think an '05 is the same as an '07.

I only drove or rode in the '04 a couple times, but it never caused any problems other than operator error (read: crunch) either.

For point of reference on the price...neither is directly comparable, but I've stopped to look at two ZX3s in the last couple days beside the road. '06 with 72-ish asking $6200, and an '03 with 135k asking $3500. (Both Vermont cars, with Vermont rust.)

If I needed wheels, I'd probably buy the car you mention as long as everything checked out in person.

*Comfort is a relative thing. I did fine on cross-country trips a few years back; lately I've had trouble since there's no center armrest and I blew out my right shoulder. Step-bro is a tall guy and hated driving his. They ain't Cadillacs.

I'd take an 05 Focus ZX3 over all the Civics of that year except the SI :deal
