YP, while riding the slick rock last week, I kept thinking that the SE would be ideal here. However, when the next fuel was 200 miles away I was content with my ADV :D

    That is awesome man.

From the minute I bought the SE I knew I would have this bike for a long-long time. It is great to know that when you take care of them they will take care of you.

No pics of the roll-over, but I'm somewhere above 140K...

My first speedo/odo lens was cracked by a bird pecking at it at around 60k (the bike was/is parked outside at work), and the replacement now shows 80-somethingK. :D

And yes, there has been mechanical issues, but nothing that hasn't already been discussed (shift drum, clutch booster, that kind of thing :evil).

I too would love to know exactly what regular maintenance you 100K plus riders have done to maintain the bikes??? Im leaving on a RTW in March on my 05 950 adv with 36K on it... Im going to replace the water pump before I leave and I put on a facet fuel pump already, taking another with me... Any tips about a few specifics I need to watch out for and tend to whie on this RTW?

    Thanks yall

oh no! not another oily thread :)

i've had 3 9x0, always 10w60 motorex oil. Expensive stuff, never had a oil related problem. Why did i had 3 similar bikes instead of one? Because a friend told me "you're a bike whore".

It always boggles my mind why the 9X0 has an internet reputation of being unreliable. :huh Sure, like any bike, there are known issues, FP on the 950, clutch slave, water pump changes, but that is really minor stuff that can be dealt with anywhere in short time if you are prepared, and if you're you're a long term long distance rider, you should be prepared.

Try changing a 12GS clutch or final drive in the boonies, oh and not to mention that funky suspension.

I see all these new bikes come out, lust over the Quest Rally 690, etc, but I can't seem to get rid of my 990. I know the bike, I love the bike, why would I ever get rid of it?

My battle scarred 07 has a bit over 70k miles, never an issue that I couldn't deal with myself in short order, but I run Slick 50 in it. :lol3
