I want to by the 2014 1190 adventure R, but I'm always weary of buying the first iteration of a new model. Do you guys think the 2014 model coming to the USA has these types of problems fixed?

should I just ignore this? I would love know of any 2014 models taken on an extensive dirt ride.

    thanks
    Andy

    thanks for the link:
"4. Dust in air box, this hasn't been a problem for me as I've only had my bike for 2 weeks and I haven't been off-road yet, my local dealer told me there is a recall on the air-box which involves fitting a pre filter set up, KTM Australia are rolling out kits for this recall over the next few weeks."

looks like it's something has been fixed or can be;):clap

excited about this bike, going to test ride tomorrow. Anyone ridden both the R and standard?

Here In AUS we are onto our second model the 2014
I have been told by a KTM tech that the airbox ,frame and several other small parts on the 2014 have different part numbers to the 2013 model

I'm sure KTM thought they had a sound design on the 2013 model. Anyone seen what the fix that is being implemented is? And I know it is hard to say until the miles start piling up, but will hold up to real world riding (since we are only recently hearing of the 2013 airbox issues).

The issue is only if the motorcycle goes offroad.Otherwise there is no problem...Χτυπα το και μη φοβασαι τιποτα!

just get the Unifilter - cheap and easy fix - really not good enough reason not to get the bike:wink:

The air bypass happens independently of riding off road or not. Offroad, more dust, damage sets in faster. Street riding, there is plenty of dust and particulate matter you don't want to see in your air intake.

I've heard that argument from KTM as well - Why would street bikes then have air filters?

Or you just buy and install the newly designed parts from the 2014 model.

Lower filter case: 60306001100 euro 25.68
    Screws: 0017060305 euro 1.47
    Air filter frame:60306016100 euro 10.07
    O-rings: 0770066025 euro 3.53

Total cost in parts: euro 40.75

Given that a 2014 model costs about 1000 euros more compared to the 2013, I signed the order form for a 2013 R and will sort out the airbox myself, either with the Uni filter or by retrofitting the new KTM parts.

I've ridden both bikes, I liked the handling on the R model much better. I found the std model a little twitchy and not planted while the R was the opposite, super planted feeling and confidence inspiring.

I also liked the ergos of the R just a bit better, but not the sky high seat height.

I don't know if the handling of the std can be fixed otherwise I'd probably prefer it for my purposes. If not then I'd probably buy the R and figure out how to lower it.

My buddy who rode the std felt the same about the handling, kinda nervous feeling.

I'd absolutely ride both before making a decision. KTM is big on getting demo bikes out for these models. I rode them at a demo day event.

Your right........you should not buy a KTM 1190. Your BMW dealer can hook you up with a bike.......enjoy that.

I've put down my deposit for Adventure R and next in line to get one hopefully with in the next 3 weeks. I really want one and feel for the people who have had problems but I do and must believe that issues have been resolved with the 2014 model.

Went to see the 1190R and saw oil leaking out. It was on the showroom floor. It looks to have pooled up on the skid plate and then slowly overflowed out. Could it have just been sloppy setup? Do they come with oil in them or does the dealer install?
