There has been some discussion regarding setting up the EDS on the 1190. I plugged my 1190 in this am to the XC1 tool and there is no such option to preset the EDS for rider weight (with the current software).

Because that wasn't good enough for me I called KTM. Word on the street is the bike actually "learns" the weight of the rider every twenty cycles of the key and automatically adjusts as needed. The 2014 software may have an option for the dealer to initially set it at PDI. Haven't confirmed this yet.

    Hi Derek

The 2014 1190 model with EDS has the option where the dealer can use the diagnostic tool and set up a baseline preload setting.
Dealers who dont have this model on the floor as yet, may not have this information.

If a rider is lets say between 90-100 kg's or over this may be useful.
If you are 85kg like me it may not be such a critical thing.
Most bikes would come from the factory with a baseline setting of 85Kg.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing the article. When I was on the phone with KTM this morning they were't able to confirm with me or not if that was going to be there.

Is setting / checking the SAG just a usual process or does the EDS change the SAG process?

    Hi Pat

I think if you are a fairly heavy rider then dont worry alot about SAG.
The preset EDS selections on the dash look after how the bike will handle.
Once you take the bike for a long ride you will have a good indication of the handling and how you like it or how it likes you..:D

Has anyone confirmed whether or not the 2014 has a software preload setting available? Spent the afternoon at the dealership and they could not find one. Called KTM and they said there is no such thing. Nor did they mention that the bike learns the rider weight.

If it does "learn", should a one ride in the one up mode for this learning process? Wish KTM had a better explanation of how this works. I weigh 290 and definitely need some preload!

    HI Mate

290 pounds, gives you an estimate of 131.5 Kg's.
Can I suggest to you that you set the preload to 1 rider and 1 bag
This needs to be done while the bike is stationary.
I'm 85 Kg, I always use this preload setting and this works for me just spot on.
If this doesnt work for you, maybe then try 1 rider and 2 bags.
Perhaps this may make the absorber a tad harsh, but give it a go. :D

Also there is nothing in the 1190 manual that highlights the electronics learn youre weight and adjusts accordingly.
I think this is just jibber jabber...

OK - thanks. That is what I had been doing - 1 rider + bags.
