I've found two different ways and there is rumor of a third but I've not explored it yet. This one would probably take the longest as it is 4.8 miles longer than taking the direct route via Interstate but so far, it is my favorite.

To reach the start of the trail, from the intersection of Maggie Mine road and Old Black Canyon Highway,
Depart S Coldwater Rd toward S Summit Dr
0.9 miBear left onto E Squaw Valley Rd
    0.8 mi
Turn left onto S Melanie Ln
0.1 miTurn right onto E Tara Springs Rd
    0.4 mi

Turn right just after the road turns from pavement to dirt. Don't turn too soon as it will just take you up somebodies driveway with a lot of barking dogs!:rofl

After a little wiggle to pass under I17...

Here is what the overall trail looks like from top to bottom...

According to MapSource, we spent 40 minutes enjoying this section of trail.

The trail up through the reserve is pretty much gone. I was up there today looking at the damage from the flood. The lower road coming in by the school is gone along with a few homes and they were working on the river crossing just past the school.

You didn't happen to take any pictures did you? That's too bad as that was a fun little connector. Thanks for the update.

We forgot the camera. The last home you past right when you hit the trail into the reserve had water right at their drive way and the trail looks like a dry river bottom. The road south out of the entrance is part of the river now. The 10 or so homes along that road had no way in or out for a few days.

The trail up through the reserve has been repaired. I was thru there today and the flood sure made a mess of it. There is debris 5-6 feet up the trees on the bank where the original trail was. The river has cut into the original trail in two or three places and now up drop down into the river bed at those locations. The exit up to Table Mesa Road has a lot more sand and rocks and may be a challenge on a big bike.
