Everywhere I read on the "Orange Crush" thread I see people saying there 1290SA is as good if not better than the 1190 or 990 in the dirt. Please post your pics of your 1290's getting dirty, and prove that it as just as good if not better.

Travelling a road in Albania last weekend was "interesting". I'm sorry I only have this picture that shows the road twisting between Sarande and Butrint in the distance. It is a really "good" and newly surfaced road with good visibility. I was "practicing" high speed cornering at about 90 kph. Shortly after one corner was a landslide with many rocks between 6 inches and 1 foot high, spread right the way across both lanes of the road, and covering the road for about 30 yards ahead. I missed seeing it when I scanned the road ahead. I could not stop before the landslide - but I did have time to sit the bike upright and scrub off about half my speed, assisted by full-on ABS. The speed I hit these boulders was about 45 kph. On any other 'bike I've owned, I'm sure I would have been off the 'bike and badly hurt. There was a heck of a "bang" as I collided with several foot high rocks at that speed. The 1290 SA rode up over them and never missed a beat. After 30 yards I was back on the paved road again. I thanked the Lord for the adaptive suspension and wire wheels which I think helped saved me (and my passenger). Also funnily enough I think the speed helped because it kept the front wheel straight (gyroscopic stability). At slower speed I don't think I could have held the front wheel straight.

I'm sure you're a better rider than I am, but heavy off road bangs can make spoked wheels collapse, destroying the wheel, leaving you stranded.

    Cool blings anyway.

Yep, that was what I was afraid of. The wheels took a helluva hit and yet appear to be perfectly OK with no apparent damage. I've checked every spoke, every mm of the type and every mm of the rim. I'm pretty amazed actually. In a pothole collision (at slower speed and with less impact force) years ago the solid/ cast aluminium front wheel on my Honda ST1300 was damaged (cracked) and had to be replaced. The "give" in the spokes of the spoked wheels on the KTM 1290 SA was able to absorb a higher impact force without causing permanent damage.

OrangeV, don't know why but I can't ever see the pictures you post. I thought it was because I use tapatalk but I just checked in a browser and still can't see them.
