Fellas, how much would or rather shoud a guy pay for a 1980 Motron 49cc moped with 650 miles and apparently in decent condition? Looks like this.

700 bucks max. If it's a dead brand far less maybe 400. It all depends on can you fix it if it breaks.

Man, I would buy one of those in a second if it would ensure it brought me back to that time - idylic picnics, playing tennis, etc. Wouldn't want to wear those powder blue short-short tennis shorts again though...

    Neat 70's informative ad.

Be sure you get in on the IPO with that California computer company. I think it's called Apple...

Sure! That is right after the last blizzard in April and the spring flood.

If it is complete and runs $400 might be fair. Minarelli mostly copied Honda, as did Motron to make the rest of the bike. I paid quite a bit less for this 1980 PA50. Did this deal happen?

Yes, I bought the 1980 Motron Medalis for $220 last Saturday, a 30-year-old moped! 600 miles on it. Seller said on the Bill of Sale there wasn't anything mechanically wrong with it, but I won't be able to test it until spring. I'll snap some photos of it once I clean the thing up a bit and once the snow melts.

I'm sure it's the only Motron in Fargo.

Very cool! I wonder how many of us will be riding these in a few years when gas is over $5/gallon.

It is cool. And maybe a significant number of us will be riding them. I am already starting to see a bunch of those little motorized gas bicycle kit powered bikes popping up all over!

btcn, Are you talking about the chain driven 2 stroke motors that fit inside a mtn bike frame? There are 4 stroke versions too that are CARB compliant. I thought about building another stupid motorized bicycle. I feel better with DOT tires and suspension between my brain and the potholes.

    Happy trails PapaD!

Yes. Actually I have a 4 stroke gas bicycle kit that I built. You can PM me if you want to talk about it. It was an easy build, and held up okay. It is a little bit slow, but its a blast to zip around town on, and with all of my engine mods it will run just shy of 45 MPH! Scary enough on a bicycle! I will also be likely posting a new thread about the rebuild here, just a bent valve fix, new pull starter rope, engine mount bolts and it'll be on the road again! ESPECIALLY with it's 200 MPG!

Agreed. Fatter tires and sturdier design of a moped make the ride more enjoyable.

This may be one of the safer ways to commute around town IMHO. You may take advantage of a sidewalk or two while at it. Did I mentioned that I can pick the thing up and carry it? O yeah you may pedal your way home if you run out of gas. I know It'd get old trying to do 30 mph on my Schwinn bycicle all day.

And to much of my surprise I downloaded for free a full service manual for a Minarelli V1 two stroke engine. Spares seems to be available at www.themopedjunkyard.com.
