Can any one tell me what they do at first service other than change oil, and look for loose bolts etc?

Is it required to be done by dealer?

    Thanks

Also, check your owner's manual for the warranty info (related to service and protecting the validity of the warranty) and list of stuff purportedly completed at the first service appointment.

...and bring your checkbook to the dealer! Service appointments can get pricey, depending on your dealer/KTM authorized provider.

Can't tell you what the book says for the 1190 but I can attest to the fact that the head mechanic at the KTM dealer I bought my 990 from flat out told me that all they did for the first service was an oil change.

I did the first service myself and followed the manual. It's my understanding that in most countries/states you are not required to have a factory trained mechanic perform standard service in order to maintain your warranty but you should check what the laws are for your area.

Always wise to have them run the VIN and see if any service bulletins or recalls are active for your bike though.

They did an oil change, looked for loose bolts, checked fluid levels, adjusted my chain. It was slightly loose, didn't bring it in until it had about 1,500 miles in it, since I took off on a ride, just a couple of days after buying it. Had it done by a dealer as a "while you wait" appt. during the trip.
