Wow, it looks like Sintax nearly went off in the same place that joefromsf actually did a while back....scary stuff! Glad he didn't, and glad Joe was ok too. His video gave me the chills.

Anyway, thanks for the RR... Always fun reading TAT adventures. Hoping to do part of it next year.

Is that XR650R kickstart only? That takes some guts if it is!

I've got a 620 RXC that is amazing off road, but it's got no magic button. It's never stranded me, but I'm hesitant to rely on the kick starter for a trip like the TAT.

    But, if Sintax made it...

Thanks for the ride report! I've been following along - just not posting much.

wow GNARLY video! and yes same spot, i guess now sintax will know what would've happened if he was just a wee bit faster... jeez! also notice there weren't any of those "helper" rocks when we rode it, maybe that helped? lol.

well yeah, of course it did! we had a blast 99.9% of the time and i was even having fun dragging those pigs through the mud. the fun dwindled a little bit the last couple days, but that really wasn't because of me or sintax...but "outside factors".

shit yes it is! i watched him kick that fucker all the way across our great country. i'm sure his leg is all bulked up on that one side now. :lol3

we'll be back to finish, i've got the right dirt weapon for the west, bring it on!

haha too funny to see some of the video now. I recall that spot pretty well, but honestly was not THAT close to having any incidents there. Just caught a bad bounce while attacking that waterfall. I've been in a lot scarier situations for sure. I could see where it could have been a bad situation had I grabbed a handful of throttle or something on accident.

Yes my bike is kick only, and on only about 2 occasions did I really hate having it. When we were in those mud pits and I could not kick the bike all the way through because the bike was sitting up to the engine case in mud. It would do about a 1/2 kick and then stop when it hit the slimy ass mud. Aside from that, the bike was on its best behaviour, i think I knew it would be on the chopping block like Vingtagespeeds bike had it given me any lip.

The first part of eagle canyon was actually a lot of fun, but the last part where you spend what feels like 3 hrs hours in a winding canyon wash, not fun...

I've regretted having the kicker on my KTM twice. Once, much like your mud issue, I was in a deep rut. I'm not sure if yours is the same, but on mine, the kicker releases from the engine at the bottom of the stroke. So, if it kicks back and the kicker is not all the way down, it really effin hurts! Whacked me in the bottom of my foot twice before I got off and drug the bike up out of the rut to start it.

The other time, I was on a steep up hill. I lost traction, but was making progress by walking along the bike pushing while having the engine help - until I killed it! It was too slick to hold the bike in place with just the front brake - and there was no way I could hold the front brake, back brake, and kick start. I had to walk the bike all the way back to the bottom and try again.

Kudos for doing the trip on a kicker! Maybe I will just keep my KTM.
