2004 950 Adventure Suspension stretch

    and trying find the need for the spacer he lists from superplush

    p/n 50180288

    I was looking through parts manuals and from what i can see all i need is the hydro stop and inner tube for forks and the shim rebound for the shock

    all cheap enough parts.

    so my question is. i happily change oil, seals and spring in my forks including a set of 48mm wp forks for my last bike

    so when i go to upgrade my springs if i get the heavier springs as required for my weight, the longer rear shock spring for my weight i should be able stretch my own sspension easily and on the cheep

    fair enough it wont be re valved but i can live with that for the mean time

    am i missing something hre as seems too easy

    i cheked part manuals and from break down there are only 4 different parts for both bikes 1 of which is just the rear spring

    you will need a nitrogen refill for the rear shock as the rebound shim requires the shock body to be taken apart.

    ok so front should be fine as i reubild them before

    rear never done so if gave it to a specalist they prob refill it cheap enough

    Except for needing the correct setup to fill the shock with nitrogen, the shock is actually easier to work on in my opinion than the forks. See if you can get someone who knows how to show you.

    I've re-valved my own forks but I'd love to know how to take the shock apart. All I really want to do is put a softer spring on it and change the oil...no special tools required (other than the nitrogen recharge)?

    Saw lad sellibg nitrogen re charge kits here as he had them in garage

    Might look it up again and get someonr show me how do it

    motion pro do a nitrogen fill valve and gauge

    so need find cheap supplier for nitrogen and a regulator

    I believe you'll need more than just a regulator. You need a vacuum pump setup as well for the KTM shock. But you might be able to find a local shop that will bleed and charge it for you for a reasonable price and would probably do it while you wait.

    Yep. There really isn't a lot to it to be honest. The bleeding process is harder on the KTM stuff compared to Showa which I have more experience with. But the proper vacuum setup makes it easy. Just have to make the investment.

    The thing I like about working on my own suspension is I can service it more regularly. Most of the specialized tools could be had and pay for themselves in just a couple of services. I even buy fork and shock oil in 5 gallon quantities.

    Nitrogen tanks are a lot like propane. Initial cost is high to pay for the tank, but refill/tank exchanges are cheap. A small bottle will last you a very long time as well if all you use it for is charging shocks.

    Issue i have is there are about 2 places in ireland that do the work but are not cheap due to low volumes in ireland

    Id like learn myself so i can do it anythime on my own bikes and othets

    Msy look buting few shocks from breakers dirt cheap to practice on
