Asking on behalf of someone looking at buying a 2004 R1200 GS, 26,000 km (16,000 miles) in mint condition.

Any particular issues that he should look for that are peculiar to this model? I am not conversant myself but I have heard that this being the first of the 1200 series it did have some problems...

    TIA

Is there such a beast? Guess so. I have never heard of that year associated with the 1200. I thought '05 was the beginning.

Got drain and fill plugs on the FD? The 05 (first year of the 1200 here in the states) took a lot of work to change the FD fluid due to lack of drain plug.

From what I understand the first of the 1200s came out in 2004 (someone correct me if that is wrong). One of our club members has one too.

You are correct; however, in the USA BMW called their last 1150 GS, which was manufactured during 2003, a 2004 model, and called the first 1200 GS a 2005 model. I understand when we Americans cross the Canadian border on our 2004 GS it immediately ages by a year, but fortunately when we go home it loses that year.
