If you have a good bike to ride now you should wait and see. But if you can't wait the 640 should be in you garage by this weekend.

The 690 is more than a year away, and anyway, who buys a re-design in the first year of production? Not I.

Buy the 2006 and in 2009 start thinking about a 690. JMO

no, not right, its a good dual sport that can do some distance with relative comfort,,, as good as it gets dual sport would be more like the 525, or husaburg, husky something like that.

No, but if you need a midsized DS bike that can take you around the world or thru anything that a midsized DS bike should be pointed at with only minor modification then the KTM LC4 Adventure is IT.

Do it! Having a blast with mine so far and keeping up with the local dualies on everything from 250's to 650's offroad on the stock rubber. It doesn't like the tight stuff too much but I'm ok with that. I'm looking forward to more long distance adventures next year and this will be perfect. Listen to Meat, he knows his stuff on this topic if you believe half of what he posts.:clap

With KTMs reputation for reliability I'm not sure why you'd say something like this :rofl

I'm waiting for a 690 based SXC enduro but I'm painfully aware of the fact that even in 2 years time KTM may not have rooted out all of the design team responsible for the 690SM styling.

Man - you said it. The new 690 mtr in an SXC frame would be THE enduro to end all enduros. But alas, if they do make one:
    A) We'll never see them in the states
    and
    B) If it looks like the SM, they can keep it in Europe.

Phew, for a second there I thought I was off base again. Which reminds me to get off base:

He hath angered Odin who smote his shop with a rather large Pinus.

I think that Tried and Proven is better than New and Improved.:eek1

As an owner of an 06 640 I can say that the bike is a blast. Sure there are somethings that could have been designed a bit better but hey that's what the after market peeps are for so we can dial them in the way we want. :thumb

I think of her (my 640) almost as like a woman that is right on the edge of drop dead gorgeous.:tband one hell-of-a good ride.:ricky How can I be so lucky to have one like this. Treat her right and she will take care of ya.:rabia
