Does anyone know why the 2008 DL650 use a different heated grip kit than the 07 and earlier? I know the stator output is down for the new model year and with the new kit being 80 bucks more I'm curious if it comes with a different regulator rectifier or stator.

I understood that one of the few changes for '08, besides color, was that the altenator output was increased to 400w from 350w in '07. I still can't figure out why Suzuki includes a plug for the heated grips but makes it so time consuming to access. The cost of a few inches more wire vs the cost of labor to find and get to the plug. Seems so penny wise and dollar foolish. :huh

Funny I read that output was down to 280 watts for 08??

I didn't know there was an OEM heated grip kit for '08. The Suzuki website doesn't show one for the '07 and '08 models. . .

I installed the Suzuki grips (the ones listed on the web site) on my '08 - worked like a champ.

And yes, getting to the connector behind the rad is goofy-dumb, to say the least.

I don't see any mention of '08 on the site?

but in the accessory catalog they say 07 and down for $207 and 08 for 280 did your kit include anything besides the grips and heat controller?

I understand now you installed the earlier grip kit on your 08.

    Hey Monkey Boy,

    Not to hijack, but...

I found the connector the other night on my K8 Wee and you are right, it's a goofy dumb place to put it. While I wait for my grips to come in I'm pondering access simce my hands won't fit.

Any ideas what's the best way to get to it - Raise the tank go in from the top? or surgically cut away the tape and bring the connector out into the open then tie wrap the wires back together?

If anyone needs to know - to answer my own question, the way I found that works is just unbolt the radiator. It moves out of the way nicely and any size hands can get in there to do what needs to be done.

Heated grips, just in time for July!
