Police responded within 40 minutes of the call so kudos for that. After taking the report, the Alameda PD cautioned me that "anyone found riding the bike may be detained at gunpoint."

    Yes please.

sometimes it pays to do a little detective work, looking over fences, snooping alleys, checking flaky bike shops, checking Craigslist, etc, etc

I once had a 72 XS650 Yamaha that I tricked out into a desert sled dual sport , it had Akront rims, flat track tires, 14 inch Ohlins shocks layed down, 4" longer DT400 forks etc, etc

I was "sleeping" in a flea bag with some little hottie I met at a Bluegrass Festival and when I went to leave in the morning bike was gone, called the cops and a cop showed up within five minutes, asked If Id recognize the tire prints, we did a search of all the dirt areas nearby and picked up the tracks in a field then followed the general direction until we found it hidden behind some trash cans covered by a tarp in an alley, he said I could stake it out and call him when I spotted the perp or just take off with it , I just took off with it
now that was a good damn cop !

A thief stole a KTM adventure bike?
How did he even know what it is?
Why did it appeal to him?

I always kind of believed most adventure bikes were safe because anyone that saw it and understood it WOULDN'T BE A THIEF!

Sucks man, I know the feeling, I've had two bikes stolen in San Francisco and it is no fun. I f'n hate thieves:fight...and I don't take the word hate lightly. Like someone said earlier though look around, you never know. I once had a bike stolen and the cops took a report, turns out the bike was ticketed a few blocks away the next day by the parking folks, of course since their computers do not talk to one another , the thieves were able to come back and make away with the bike. Guess who had to fight the ticket...:huh

Anyway, I've got a 2011 white, and I'm nearby, so my eyes will be peeled. Good luck and I hope you get it back soon.

I just got here from a link on SBR, it might get more ADV folks if you posted it in Regional West?
If it is already there please disregard.
That really sucks, hope you have good insurance.

I'd like to see a list of stolen bikes with VIN numbers.

Be sure to tell your dealer, so he can update the KTM Dealer website with your 'stolen' bike history. It will help to get it back, or parts of it.

Thanks for the responses. I have comprehensive insurance but it's not going to cover the true value or the blood, sweat and tears I've put into making that thing run right over the last three years. As of now, I'm assuming it's a total loss and I will be on the phone to Scuderia Tuesday morning looking for a deal on a new bike and starting all over with the farklage.

Probably there are a lot of professional thieves that are very knowledgeable about bikes, and probably focus on the market value or desirability of a bike and accessories rather than a marketing description of the machine.

I hope you get your bike back. Three months ago I had a very nice mountain bike stolen from my shed and It was a terrible feeling. I still look for it around and on line, in whole or parts.

    Good luck!

We'll look for parts and the bike here in Sacramento. Still, I'm hoping you find the bike somewhat intact with the thief smeared all over the road. With the afore-mentioned ass cancer to boot.
