2010 Twin Cam Engine Vibes

    Just wondering what sort of vibes the 2010 GS and GSA's are experiencing.
    Ive done 5000k's on my 2010 twin cam GSA and its pretty smooth except in the cruising range. :huh

    In top gear at 120k's/hour its at 4200rpm and the vibes are really annoying through the bars, seat and pegs.

    Up to 4000 rpm its smooth and over 5000rpm its smooths out again but cruising at 120-140 in top at 4200-4800 its unbearable for any length of time.

    Anybody else get this?

    As usual, the dealer says "they all do that" :huh but I dont believe it.

    just over 6k on mine, including a 1000k day a couple of weeks ago, no significant vibe issues that I've noticed

    Hmmmm, thats bad then, good for you though:lol3.

    The vibes between 4 and 5k on mine are really annoying and uncomfortable.

    Do you know if yours had the cam sensor ring done?
    When I bought mine they said it wasnt necessary but when I rand them and asked them today they said that based on the VIN it had been done :huh

    Wondering if thats a likely cause?

    Sounds familiar, mine vibrates when doing 120-140 kmh. Sometimes more annoying that others, but the vibe is always there.

    When I did a lengthy test ride report, I noted the 2010 felt like it had more vibes at passing speeds (70-90 mph, 4200-5500 rpms) than the hexheads. Folks here said I was out of my tree and theirs were "smooth as silk".

    Not sure if these guys were coming from thumpers or a vintage BSA (or both), but it's evident that the Boxers at agressive highway speeds are not as balanced as some hope.

    However, it may be down to getting the valves just right and a good throttle body synch. My 07 is smooth as butter up to 4000 rpms. After that, she gets a little vibey. Which is unsettling when I need to put the spurs to 'er in slab traffic.

    Do the throttle body sync exactly for your cruising speed. I got mine done for the 3 to 4k range where I'm riding it most and it's really smooth there.

    2010 GSA w/2500 miles.

    I have noticed my GS was "less smooth" @ 4-5K RPM. Noticeable enough that I tend to shift out of that range if I'm there for any length of time.

    I thought it felt like something in the engine management system hunting. I thought unkind thoughts about the EPA, considered the exhaust flapper operation, and have been thinking about TB sync, but on mine it's not irritating enough to get invasive. I figure I'll give things another 3k miles to phone home before I poke at it.

    I am liking this bike. Almost enough to get an old guy to compose poetry to it.

    9800 kms on mine. I usually run in 5<SUP>th</SUP> gear between 4500 and 5000 rpm at about 120 k/h. No noticeable vibration detected to date.

    Sounds like some do and some dont or maybe some do more than others.
    My previous 08 was smooth as, no such issues.
    Just that when you do the long distance rides, 120-130 is a nice lazy cruise speed but those vibes are annoying for any length of time.
    Normally id barely notice it, just on the long haul on tar, its a pain.

    That being said, its a great bike and sounds like nothing to worry about.

    I did actually fit the Booster plug and left it for 2000k's and I think its actually better without.
    It had better power with it but the vibes seem worse.
    Generally smoother without it.

    All I have to do is worry about the cam chain rattle now :lol3

    The "accelerator module" will fix all this for something like $58. Read my threads on the GS performance upgrades if you want. I did a lot of experimenting and this was the biggest key item. The whole bike will run better and cooler...

    Ive read most of your excellent posts but cant find any reference to if you had the vibes in that rpm range before the mods?

    I thought the "accelerator module" and "booster plug" were pretty much the same thing?

    We cant get the accelerator module too easily here from what I can gather.

    No, I've had no problems but will check the vin etc at the 10K service.

    I have to say that the my 2008 R1200R is smoother - however I think that is mainly due to it being fully run in

    I went from a 2005 to a 2010 GS. The 2005 was very smooth. The 2010 starts to buzz around 65-70 MPH and never smooths out at higher speeds. I am slightly bummed about this. I'll take it to the dealer in a few days.

    One of the reasons I'm hanging onto my 07 for at least another year. Butter smooth until 4500-ish, and it sounds like that's where coolbanana's starts getting vibey.

    Maybe they'll remedy it by 2011.

    Butter smooth, just like my 08 was :cry.

    4200 is uncomfortable :huh.

    Im kinda hoping that maybe it will get better with time and k's.
    The 08 had its issues but by 20,000k's it was really smooth, used no oil, reved up very nicely (with all the mods). Only traded because of other ongoing issues, but the motor was excellent.
    Probably going to require some attitude alteration on my part and try to ignore it and see if it improves with time :D

    Maybe there will be a remedy, I hope so,

    For me it was where range where the throttle bodies are synced. Get this close to the "comfort zone" and you'll have it right.

    I asked the dealer when I had the 600 mile service about this and told them, that I normally ride in the 3 to 4.5k rpm range and the set it up appropriately and vibes are no problem anymore.

    Seems to make no difference to mine.
    The dealer set it up and it vibed, Ive redone it multiple times, in that range and out and it doesnt make any difference.

    I can set mine up at 2k and its still perfect at 5 or I can do it at 5k and its still spot on at 2 or 3 or 4.5k.
    It really does not vary, if its done correctly it will correct throughout the rev range.

    Ive even set it a fair way out to see what effect it has and the throttle opening the greater the effect (obviously) and vice versa but it does not remove whats inherently what appears an mechanical imbalance vibe (maybe fueling) not a synch vibe.

    Its interesting how little things have changed over the last 10 years. My 2000 1100 starts to vibrate more at about 4200. Pretty smooth up to that point. No matter what I do you can't make it go away. I'm asuming that it is inherient to the boxer design.
