Changed a front tube after a flat on the hwy the other night and noticed my front rim was cactus. Too many dings and wobbles for my liking.
What's a decent alternative to the stock rim?
I've emailed JTR about an Excel rim.
OTR Germany can supply with spokes for about $350 landed here in Perth. Then at least $100 to get it all laces up.
Will be using my OEM hub.

    Any other suggestions?

    Cheers
    Rod.

Greetings Rod....Just been down this road myself....(After a tube blew-out at 110 K's, my front rim was cactus....:eek1)

Purchased a black Excel rim and SS spokes from OTR, and proceeded to lace the wheel myself using the original hub.

The Excel rim was so "true" it was simply a matter lacing in the spokes, and very slowly tightening up the nipples by hand, ensuring each spoke length was kept reasonably equal.

Finished mine off with a wheel truing jig (Torpedo7) and a spoke torque wrench. Probably got it to within 1/2 mm runout in the stand, but lost a bit when I fitted the tube and tyre.

Gave the spokes another tweak after the first ride and there were only a couple requiring adjusting.

If you intend having a go at lacing yourself, make sure you take a couple of pics of the lacing pattern before stripping the spokes from the rim.

When I put my order in with OTR I also ordered some cush drive rubbers, oil filters and an oil draining kit to take advantage of the shipping weight allowance....

Yeah it sticks out a bit to miss the shocks. I originally made the brackets to hold the adjustable mounting that came with the lamp but I though this setup was more solid. The only problem is that the tow ring just touched the shortened bracket so it came off... You only need to tow KTM"s from the back of a Tenere anyway :D
