I am really hoping for some good pictures. This looks to be a great race.

Anyone know if there is any live timing?

I've not heard of any live timing or scoring. I'll be taking a camera and will try to post up pic when I return, Tues or Wed after the event.

I just finished converting NORRA's car roadbook into the format used by bikes. Now 25 copies are on their way to Mexicali. The result is any of the bike competitors who want them will get a slightly better roadbook than the cars! Ask for it at registration. If you're only using a GPS, you won't know about the countless hazards that are identified in the roadbooks (for both cars and bikes) but not in the GPS file. Also, a significant last minute course change that's in the roadbooks doesn't appear in the GPS files currently on the NORRA website.

Scott, we are using a combo of roadbook and GPS in the car (GPS mostly used for Odo), how is your rollchart better than the roadbook? I'm asking because I will be in the right seat for Ryan Arciero....

Plus, with theirs all you do at the finish in La Paz after a 1000 miles of racing is "STOP".
With mine, you get to do that, but you also get a checkered flag and a beer.
Now which roadbook is going to get you to the finish quicker?

Nicely done Scott! I almost wish we had a rollchart, but the big book is easier to see without my glasses on.

I'm sitting here with OregonCoast, Luke, and DocSprocket planning our final pit strategy for the race. Really looking forward to this.

We met up with Gary Preston and Eric Bergquist (Larry Bergquist's son) the winner of the 1968 Mexican 1000 today. What a great experience. :clap

NORRA put an updated Lowrance GPS file on their website. The Garmin file is still the old one, which doesn't follow the latest course. They had problems converting the Lowrance file to Garmin last night, but they finally got past that and I expect they'll get the updated Garmin file uploaded soon. The major change is right off the start on day 1.

There are many out here following this thread to see if the event fits our schedule in 2012. We are not D37 desert racers, but recreational riders from New England. Our early estimation is that the course may be too fast, due to lack of technical challenge. On the other hand, I can ride as slow as I want! :D

They are 6", like other standard rally roadbooks. Charlie had other obligations.

The times at the checkpoints will be entered into a log, typed in to a computer, and emailed to a central point where they will be imported into the scoring database. Then they'll get pushed out for the world:

    http://norra.com/results_2011.php

So, is it "live"? Not in the "that guy just finished 4 seconds ago, what is his stage time" way. I'd expect that each night we'll have scores out.

It's sat phones, wacky modems, trying to get laptops to work in the desert, bad internet connections, random wifi... a real challenge. (Ok, sure, nothing you couldn't fix for 10 or 20 grand. :evil )

    I'm excited! :clap

He was on the entry list, but not in the official start order I got this morning around 5am. 78 race vehicles will make the start line, 22 of which are motorcycles.

The first cars should have left Laguna Salada at 8am... so everyone should be off and racing now! :)
