Twin Headlight Ernie and I are going to organize a fun little weekend group ride in June. What we are thinking is meeting in Black River Falls on Friday June 15th and on Saturday, we will ride about 250 miles of the Trans Wisconsin Trail to Clam Lake where we will camp. Then on Sunday, everyone will go their own way. I think this is one of the most fun sections of the TWAT route.

This route will be suitable for larger ADV bikes with knobbies but will be more fun on smaller bikes. We will be camping and riding fully loaded so leave your trailers and big camping gear at home. Basically this will be a fun ride with old and new friends, we will check out some interesting sites and have some great times.

Please reply back is you plan on coming!

    Edit:
I think I'd like to put a cap on the amount of riders so we don't run into issues with camping. I think 20 sounds like a good manageable number. So, anyone that has replied to this thread or thinking about it, please let me know if you are an "In" or a "Maybe".

I will have to get a hold of the campgrounds and see what they want me to do in regards to reservations and things like that.

Would love to jump on the TWAT with you guys but I am taking the family to DC for a week over this weekend. I hope to connect up with you guys at some point this year. I just picked up a new bike and will need to put some miles on. Have a great time!

How technical is that section of the twat? Am pretty much a noob to off road riding.

I think I'm probably with Kanaan and MrPX as far as off road experience. I am picking up a 1200 GS in a few weeks, but it has Tourances instead of the knobbies. Will those tires be serviceable on this part of the TWAT?

Its not technical really, but there is a lot of sand near where we are starting. I had a Buell Ullyses come with on my last run, and he did good but he biffed a few times in the sand. Personally, I wouldn't ride anything with Tourances on it on this section, but thats just me. The Perkinstown trails are really rocky doubletrack with mud holes scattered around. You can get through there with 50/50 tires though. I think this is ideal for 650's and certainly doable on large ADV bikes. If I had a GS, I'd take it on the route, but it would have TKC's on it.

I think I am going to rethink my priorities for that weekend.

This is sounding like a better idea.
I did miss out on the ride last year.
