So I could get the hose at an auto parts store? Do you know the inside/outside diameter? Thanks
Plus 2 there and what type FI hose clamps you guys running as the oem are crap too.
5/16 hose and most any good auto supply has special FI clamps
This EFi fuel line has happened twice to my buddy with his 2013 500exc. he was at the dealer yesterday to get his line replaced from the first time. The first time, it burst 20 miles from the end of a DS ride. 2nd time was yesterday while he was test riding it after the fix, solo and a couple miles from a road. I kept telling him to just go to an auto parts store and get some high quality high PSI fuel line, but he's hell bent on the dealer dealing with it. We've got a big ride this weekend and I'm thinking aboout stopping at an auto parts store on my way up North this morning and picking up the line myself......damn stubborn firends. at least I'll have a back up line to get him back to camp without having to leave him stranded at a closed down strip club in the middle of nowhere, like the first time.
....maybe we should all have this defect. Could think of worse places to be left
...re-read and saw you mentioned "closed down" strip club. Well, that would actually be awful.....you'd be left him some empty tables and your imagination.
When it blows out on him again, don't give him the line at first and let him sweet it for a few.. :eek1

Im looking forward to a full weekend of Southern Piney Woods riding in North West Florida ( or Lower Alabama if you prefer), where we have more than sugar sand. These rides are what the 5Hunny was made for. What a hoot to ride.

There is another tried n true solution for the fuel line retention issue at a near zero cost - safety wire. The pic below is not very clear but the technique is to wrap the safety wire completely around the hose once to form a choke then twist it tight & wrap the ends over so they do not poke you. I use .041 dia stainless wire from Harbor Freight. I put on two of these clamps for redundancy. I have has many normal clamps fail but I have NEVER had this clamp fail or leak. I use small vise grips, preferable the duck bill variety in place of regular safety wire pliers (which I also own) becaus I can get a better feel of wire tightness before breaking it.
Try it. You will be surprised.

I replaced my rear turns with some from Sicass. I experienced one hang up. In the origional location, the new ones did not sit flush with the stock plastic shape?
So I took it down some with the Drumell and made it flush.
Looks good. More important, will I rip it off next trip in the woods? I think this set will last. Nice and tucked in. Real bright as well.
Red to black with white stripe and black to black. I used a longer screw, flat washer, lock washer and red loctite.
would one of you guys consider doing a video on checking and adjusting valves :eek1

Just bought a 2013 500 EXC and will take delivery in two weeks, same day I will start a week long ride far away from bike shops. Other than the supplies for the recommended maintenance, what other extras would you bring along?
I understand an extra high pressure hose and two clamps for the fuel line will be a good idea. What else?
Buy an extra headlight bulb, the stock one seems to rattle apart soon. I got the Sicass 35wt halogen and it has held up well.
Before you leave, at least run the bike one hour and change the oil and filter and check the valves.
Get 7 of the largest spoke wheel weights, put three opposite the rim lock on the front, put 4 on the back.
Carry stuff to change a flat. The KTM multi tool has a tire lever on it, so you only need one tire iron, small double acting mountain bike pump, a stick to put under swing arm, 21" tube, patches, glue, bottle of alcohol for cleaning tube (I like to carry lensl cleaner for safety glasses, 98% alcohol), cloth to lay the wheel on,
Add to the tool kit: smallest needle nose vice grips, small bottle of loctite 243 (blue), wire, elec tape, zip ties, spare master link, spare fuel filters in crush proof tube, fuel connector wash kit (should come with bike), small bottle of gear oil for chain lube, grunge brush to clean chain, tooth brush to clean bike parts before working on it, 0.004, 5, 6, 7, 8" feeler gauges for valve checks, nytrile gloves, euro bike bolt kit,
Very optional tools: 17, 19 mm sockets for front sprocket and swingarm, 4, 5, 6, 8 mm allen, 6, 8, 10 mm wrenches to get more power than the stock kit.
If I might add a note on masterlink....
I am in the habit of taking my "spare" mastelink and making sure it will actually fit on the chain. I ususally modify my spare by reaming out the holes and actually filing off some thickness of the outer plate. As this is so that if I ever did need the masterlink it will actaully fit without major tools.....
Am I the only guy that notices this.... I can almost never get the master link to work even in the garage with vice grips etc.
Oh fuzes... you bike has spares already but you may blow a couple trying to figure where you problem is. Throw in a couple more...
Any big issues with not having this upper chain guard on the bike? I dont believe the XCW version has it. Mine, uh, got "removed" this past Saturday on a ride.
