How'd those New Years Day rides go? The local Louisville BMW club met this AM for the annual NYD ride down river for breakfast. VERY windy and pretty cold too. Even let a couple Super Tenere's come along.

I started out attempting to ride the number of miles that it is degrees outside (37) but with it being overcast and 40 mph winds, I decided to go the number of minutes that is is degrees outside. :evil I put about 21 miles on today mainly in town and was gone about an hour. I did ride for about ten miles yesterday checking to see if my fix for the oil leaks worked. Here are a couple of pics. The first one is from yesterday and shows an old building where they used to make railroad cars. I found a raccoon tail around here and mounted it to the back of my milk crate. Slowly I am building a "rat" bike. I didn't mean to do it but it seems to just be happening naturaly. :nod The second is from today and shows an old warehouse close to downtown Bloomington.

A couple of us joined a ride organized by the Southern Cruiser MC. We had a nice 250 mile loop to Panama City and then three of us rode back on Highway 98. Nice to be close to the beach.

My grungy Bandit, a nice BMW and my buddy's CB 1100.

That CB looks and sounds awesome. Every time I ride with him, it makes me want one.

All in all, darn good way to spend New Year's Day.

With temps up to almost 60 degrees I called one of my long time riding buddies and went for a ride up on the plateau.

It was not a long ride, but it was my first in 2012. Here's the video.

I rode out to Castlewood Canyon Park, southeast of Castle Rock, Colorado. It was an excuse to break in a set of Shinko tires and to try out a new seat. I ran into several instances of frozen, hardpacked mud within the state park, but alltogether, an uneventful and carefree ride.

Started with the usual breakfast at Starbucks in Highlands Ranch:

First stop, looking west toward the rockies. Notice the massive clouds shearing over the top of the mountains and pushing a good deal of wind my way:

Next stop to check the map; nicely packed gravel road southeast of castle rock:

The weather was a brisk 42F with a bit of wind and some melting snowpack:

I pulled over to let a girl in a Subaru get around me. About this point, the road climbs a bit and becomes wooded:

And the main attraction of Castlewood Canyon. I don't know what the ruins are from because it was a paysite, but perhaps I'll check it out in the spring when it's warmer:
