    New Hampshire White Mountains

Friday August 3 to Sunday August 5

Great riding and scenery in the Northern New Hampshire White Mountains

Beautiful wilderness areas to ride and enjoy. You will love the roads.

Routed Ride by New Hampshire Native RandyO on Saturday

Great dual sport street and dirt road ride on Saturday. Dirt roads not trails. All fun, Reasonable pace, no worries, no one left behind.

Ride up from Massachusetts on Friday, PM stromper if interested. If weather is perfect I may hit Mount Washington Auto Road on the way home Sunday... scary fun.

We had 13 in Vermont last year. Everyone had a great time and we are a little smarter this year.

Make your own reservation for lodging / post here if going or questions

Camping at Twin River Campground, Bath NH
    Twin River Campground

Great campsite and cabins with amenities, pool, river etc. It is on the Amanoosac river trail system but they seem to be d*cks about an expensive NH trail pass.

We have designated the rustic area campsites for our area they are numbered H15 to H21. There can be 2 bikes in a campsite at %30 a night so you can split $60 for the weekend. PM me if by yourself I will try to pair you up to handle $$ etc.

There are rustic cabins C5,C6,C7,C8 (bed and A/C no bathroom) these are 3 day minimum for $200. Please discuss bodies etc. with the campground.

There are plenty of other campsites if these fill up.

Motel at Nootka Lodge, Bath NH
    www.nootkalodge.com
    3 miles from campground

Looks like a nice place at a reasonable cost.

Last year this was mainly a V-Strom ride, through Vermont, organized through the Stromtrooper forum. I went last year and it was great (my handle is KevinP on that forum). Mostly a street ride, easily passable on street tires on 650+ sized bikes. Leave the hardcore dual sport bike at home and bring the comfy, mile-eater!

It's cool that this year will open up to a variety of bikes. I will bring my DL650 (not the KTM 300).

Stick with the Anakees. I've had a couple sets of TKC80s and they wear quickly and are overkill for this type of ride. Last year I did the (similar) Vermont ride with this group on Tourance rear and more street oriented Tourance EXP front and I was easily hanging with the front of the pack with no traction issues. On the dirt roads, this is a pretty slow moving group, in my opinion. In fact at least one rider had NEVER been on any kind of dirt before. On the street some of the riders like RichW are quick and you will enjoy the traction of the Anakees.

How much dirt is involved....i might be intrested to join as i am thinking of getting a adv bike this winter.I would like to discuss what /how to proceed with developing skills and a bike to start from some real people than
    the interwebs.

I had a vstrom1000 a 05 in 2005.I put 10k in 5 months ...it was heavy , top heavy and got stuck in sunday night on a trail. I got out and then sold the bike.went back to a street bike in 06 when i got a fz1 a left over from a dealer.
now i am intrested to get into adv riding....but with a smaller ride.

I've done all of the roads on the route on a 2012 Vstrom 1000 2-up with stock tires, so people shouldn't worry too much about the dirt. Sandwich Notch Road was probably the sketchiest because there were some (relatively) steep bits. There may also be some slightly loose stuff and/or pot holes on some of the dirt roads depending on how recently they were graded, but nothing an average rider couldn't handle taking it slowish.

    2 month to go bump

Yes it is DIRT ROAD ride. Roads used every day by cars and trucks

Any advneture or Universal Japanese Motorcycle UJM should be fine.

If the grader has been by recently they usually leave marbles which makes it interesting but no problem with minimal care.

If you have to start this where to do it

I plan to come up this year if I can arrange my work schedule. I was going to make it up last year until I injured my hand and was in a cast for 2 months.

I will be on an '08 DL1000 currently shod with TKC80's, though I will probably have Anakee2's on by then if I finish off the TKCs on my Canada Trip.

Speaking of Canada - I am planning a James Bay Road/North Road ride and possibly including all or part the Trans Tiaga Road(?). So far it is a solo ride, but tossing it out there to anyone else who would like to go! Timeframe would be the days required, departing on or after 6/16 and returning home by 6/29. I can be quite flexible within that timeframe.

I'm in Lebanon, N.H., could meet at the Twin Rivers campground on Saturday Morning the 4th of Aug. What time are you leaving? Sounds like a fun ride! I ride an 07 Buell Ulysses does great on dirt roads with Scorpion Trails.

    Thanks

I'm in on my Vee, along with BostonRider on her KLX250SF. We have a place to stay over in Bethel, ME, so we'll meet up with the group on Saturday morning. When things get sorted be sure to post up a departure time. I'll send a PM for the .gpx files as well.
