the 495's are the sleeper buy in VMX in my book. the 490 Maico's seem to sit on the throne of the holy grail of VMX and deservedly so but they now come at a price. I've seen very nice 495's going for half of what some of the 490's go for. I could be wrong but I'd think a twin shock 495 KTM is the rarer bike. they certainly give nothing away in the looks dept the 495 KTM is one eyeful of big 2 stroke porn. if you gave me the choice of one or the other both in the same condition I'd have to take the KTM. Never rode either one the closest I came to riding something like that was a 1978 Maico 400 Magnum that my riding buddy had. We were pretty evenly matched him on a 370 Pursang and me on a 360 CR. when he got the 400 Magnum I couldn't keep him in sight.

I need better 495 pics this one's from ebay the Maico is from Unadilla VMX last June.

thanks. well I've seen it now. pretty blatant it's too bad he didn't end up on the ground himself. I try not to get caught up in these things but I wasn't a fan of Wharton and now I officially don't like him. Probably the last guy you'd want to do that too Bowers isn't exactly unfamiliar with riding at close quarters I hope he stuffs Wharton and stuffs him good. I guess Jesus Christ wanted him to do that and he was just giving it up for Jesus.

Apparently the bar bangin' is happening amongst other racers. This shit has been going on forever. Now, since everyone has feelings, it isn't the thing to do in SX or MX. I welcome the aggression. It is of course, racing. Take outs, paybacks, smack talking, whatever, it makes things more interesting instead of some milk toast contest.:1drink

Bowers has put so many people over the berm he could fill a stadium. He's just getting what he gives.

Disclaimer: I haven't actually seen the footage, so if its horribly blatant, I may change my opinion. That doesn't change the fact that Bowers has done the same to many others. Don't cry any tears for Bowers.

It's horribly blatant and coming from someone who every time there is a camera and a mic in his face gives thanks to the lord jesus christ it's safe to say Wharton is a phony on top of a dirty rider.

A nice roost is a thing of beauty! I was riding with a friend on my 495 long ago, once or twice he went out of his way to fling rocks at me with his pitiful KDX200,I explained that was a bad idea,he continued flinging pebbles with his toy mosquito repellant bike.
So later I lined up the 495 with his front grill and lit it off short shifting like a fiend.

Results? Broken headlight and shroud, broken chest protector, nearly cleaned him off the bike. He took it in stride and we continued on.

Yeah I can see bumping and banging bars and bikes and elbows, but in the big show with cameras and many thousands watching,it just looks bad to be knocking guys down in order to pass, its unprofessional.

At a World Of Outlaws race they hit and rub but no obvious Take Out moves are tolerated,Steve Kinzer will personally kick your ass if you do so,Nor at Moto-GP is it allowed,FIM Speedway wont tolerate it and said take out riders are ejected from the race.

Obvious take down moves should result in docking of results for that race, anybody at that level can knock a rider and bike down.

I also think one's religion is a private thing and their lord probably doesnt favor one racer over the other, doesnt need to be thanked for results in a race. Just my 2 cents.
    Its become a cliche.

Looks just like my old 495,I traded an 86 KDX200 for it straight across. The guy had the 495 jetted so rich it only got 15mpg,took about a half hour to fix that and get rid of the huge tank he had on it.
It was reliable and ran like a freight train,no mechanical problems.

Friends who had Maicos had to know all the tricks to keep em going, nice bikes though.

I don't think the Bowers/Wharton thing is a big deal. That's why the 250 riders are so fun to watch. They do all kinds of off the wall stuff. By the time they make it to the big bikes they have either learned their lesson or get taught one real quick. I don't think you can really make a rule about agressive riding b/c who the heck would make the decision as to if a move was "too dirty" or not? It would always piss off one guy or the other and their fans. Bowers and Wharton will figure it out. I'm ready to watch the next race. Best racing in years! Both classes even!

I mostly agree with you but SX has different sort of level of or lack of precision in regards to wheel placement that's unlike the other forms of racing because of the huge, and constantly changing track surface. Knocking someone off in a road race is a lot more obvious.
